Chabad at KU

Chabad at KU Chabad is a warm, non-judgmental, fun, exciting, and lively place, where every Jewish student feels comfortable. At Chabad, a Jew is a Jew, period.

It is a home for every Jew, "Where Every Jew Is Family"! Chabad recognizes all Jews, regardless of affiliation, background or levels of observances. Our philosophy states that every Jew deserves an equal opportunity to experience and enjoy their heritage. Our center is directed by Rabbi Zalman & Nechama Tiechtel. Chabad is right there, 24 hours a day, seven days a week and serves as the “Home Away From Home” for every Jewhawk, for any need. Come experience Chabad and join the Family!

Twenty years ago, we arrived in Lawrence, Kansas with three things: a dollar, a dream, and a six-week-old baby.

It is with profound emotion that we share that today, twenty years later, that same six-week-old baby, our beloved daughter Mina, is getting married in the very same physical space of the Chabad House where she first began her mission as a baby.

Over the past two decades, Mina has inspired thousands of students and community members, even as a young child, simply by modeling what it means to be a proud and committed Jewish woman. Having left the larger Jewish comforts of Brooklyn, NY to grow up in Lawrence, Kansas, she dedicated herself to sharing the beauty and joy of Judaism with so many fellow Jews around her.

Today’s celebration is not just a personal family event. It is truly a celebration of the entire KU Chabad family. Every student, alum, parent, donor, and community member who has walked through our doors over these past twenty years is part of our mishpacha, our family.

There is an ancient Jewish tradition that on the day of a wedding, family and friends say a prayer and perform a mitzvah in honor of the young couple, that they merit a beautiful life together. We kindly ask that if possible, you take a moment today to say a prayer or do a mitzvah in their honor.

Finally, we are delighted to share with you the livestream link to the wedding festivities beginning today at 4:30 PM Central Time, so that you too can be part of this joyful celebration:

With much love and tremendous joy,

Rabbi Zalman and Nechama and Mina :)

"Deeply meaningful” truly captures the essence of the Shabbat lunch and dinner we shared this past weekend. Each meal welcomed nearly 80 guests, with different graduates and their extended families joining us for each one. The l’chaims and heartfelt blessings shared throughout touched every heart in the room. We are so proud of every graduate. It was an honor to share your graduation weekend with your families. Mazal Tov!
*While we have no pictures from Friday night once Shabbat began or from Shabbat day lunch, we managed to get a few before Shabbat started as well as on other days ;)

Last night we gathered for a deeply moving Havdalah at Sarah’s Stream together with the parents of Sarah Milgrim, ahead of the first anniversary of her tragic death.

Surrounded by KU students and her family, we reflected on Sarah’s beautiful legacy and the responsibility we each have to continue spreading the light, kindness, and love she stood for.

Standing around the stream dedicated in her memory made the evening especially powerful and meaningful.

May Sarah’s memory continue to inspire blessings and goodness in our world.
