Today is a birthday! 🎉 The Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

So, what could you give Mary for her birthday? Perhaps the best gift is one she would pass on to her Son: pray a Rosary, spend a few minutes with Jesus, perform an act of kindness or ask Mary to help you grow closer to Christ.

This Labor Day, we give thanks for the dignity of human work and for all whose labor serves their families, strengthens our communities and contributes to the common good.

Through work we participate in God’s ongoing work of creation and place our gifts at the service of others.

Jesus reminds us today that Christian community is about choosing love in the midst of conflict.

When someone hurts us, Christ calls us first toward the person, not away from them.

Reconciliation takes courage and humility and sometimes more than one attempt.

Today the Church celebrates the Memorial of St. Teresa of Calcutta, a modern-day saint who was a powerful witness to seeing Christ in the poorest and most forgotten.

Mother Teresa was known to do small things with great love. She served the sick, the dying and the marginalized with extraordinary tenderness because she believed that in each person, she was serving Jesus Himself.

Her example challenges us to look more closely at the people God places in front of us each day and ask: How can I love Christ in this person?

St. Teresa of Calcutta, pray for us!

We invite you to pray with us as we honor St. Rose of Viterbo on her feast day. 🤍

Loving God,
We pray in union with our sister in Christ,
St. Rose of Viterbo, as we entrust You with the needs of the world and our hopes for your Holy Church.
Where there is misinformation, may there be truth.
Where there is injustice, may there be restoration and equity.
Where there is violence, may there be peace.
Like St. Rose and with your grace, help us to be devoted to Truth, Love, Peace and the Gospel with evangelical zeal, no matter how dire our circumstances.
We pray this through Christ our Lord.

St. Rose of Viterbo, pray for us!

Prayer by Sister Julia Walsh.
