It takes a team of dedicated volunteers to maintain our building and grounds. We are particularly proud of our green space, a safe harbor for a host of suburban-dwelling creatures. In this blog, Jerry T. gives an update on efforts to have Westside certified as a level 1 arboretum. And, we're having workdays at Westside on Monday mornings, starting July 6th from 8 to 11. Happy Pride month! On Sunday, after a thought-provoking service on the current state of LGBTQ+ rights in Tennessee (spoiler: abysmal) we reframed the conversation with a special rainbow themed potluck. (see the delicious rainbow cheesecake?) Because, as Rev. Carol said, there are many diverse and different colors in our rainbow!

It is celebrated in remembrance of June 19, 1865, when Major General Gordon Granger ordered the final enforcement of the Emancipation Proclamation in Texas at the end of the American Civil War. Let's learn more about this important moment in American history and what it means to our neighbors here in TN and in other states.

Bridging ceremonies at Westside are always special. We mark the transition of our young members from childhood to adulthood, with all of the joys and tribulations that come with it. Today we celebrated recent graduate Tramane's accomplishments as he crossed the bridge. Way to go, Tramane! Thanks to Bill S. for taking the photos.

Sunday at 11. There's nothing like a bridge to span the chasms that can separate us physically and metaphorically. As we celebrate the 'bridging' from youth to adulthood of our graduating seniors, we reflect on how we can ourselves be bridges in a world too torn by division and difference.
Congregational meeting follows the service.
