Sunday School Lesson 8-30-2026: Lydia — Faith, Success & Generosity

What happens when a successful businesswoman encounters the gospel?

In Acts 16, we meet Lydia, a wealthy dealer in purple cloth from Thyatira and a “God-fearer” whose heart was opened to Paul’s message. Her conversion marks a pivotal moment in the spread of Christianity—the gospel is moving into Europe, beginning with Philippi in Macedonia.

Lydia didn’t simply hear the good news—she put her faith into action. She and her household were baptized, she opened her home to Paul and his companions, and she used her resources and influence to support the growing Christian community.

Even when Paul and Silas faced imprisonment and opposition, Lydia remained steadfast.

Lydia reminds us that success and faith can go hand in hand—and that our homes, resources, influence, and abilities can become gifts through which God blesses others and advances the gospel.
