Start warming up because there’s room for your voice in the choir.

Led by our Director of Music, Michael Monnikendam, the St. John's Choir returns this fall, once again adding our voices to Sunday worship.

Whether you’ve sung in choirs for years or are wondering if this might be the year to give it a try, you’re invited to join us.

Feast your eyes on these beauties. 🍅

Another colorful harvest from the State Street Community Garden is headed to New Bethlehem Programs, and the next round is already getting started. New fall vegetables and herbs are ready to go into the garden.

We had a full weekend beyond the garden, too. On Saturday, volunteers from St. John’s and IMAN Center welcomed neighbors and friends to Community Dinner. On Sunday, some of those same volunteers joined those headed to Merrill Gardens for our monthly Eucharist with residents there.

Thank you to everyone who plants, harvests, cooks, serves, worships, and shows up for our neighbors.

Welcome back, Trish! 🎉

Our Parish Administrator, Trish, is back in the St. John’s office after spending the summer working remotely from Cuenca, Ecuador. The church office has now returned to its regular hours.

We’re so glad to have you with us again, Trish! We’re grateful for all you did keeping things running smoothly from afar.

And a big thank-you to everyone who helped keep things going here while she was away.

The table is still being set.

For years, Sheila Stanton helped make Community Dinner much more than a meal. She believed in welcoming people as guests and gathering them around a table where everyone was treated with care and dignity.

Sheila insisted that this was dinner, not a “feeding program.” The tablecloths, china, decorations, and carefully set tables were part of that welcome. Everyone who came through the door deserved a place at the table.

One year ago this week, Sheila died unexpectedly, but the community she helped build continues.

This Saturday at 6 p.m., the tables will be set again. Volunteers will prepare the meal, the doors will open, and neighbors and friends will gather together for dinner.

Come with family. Meet a friend. Walk through the door on your own.

There’s a place at the table for you.

Summer may be winding down, but the State Street Community Garden is still growing. 🌱

Tomatoes, herbs, cucumbers, beans, and more are making their way from the garden to New Bethlehem Center and our neighbors, all thanks to the volunteers who plant, water, w**d, and harvest throughout the season.

And now there’s room to grow even more. More landscaping has been removed and new raised beds have been added so the garden can produce more fresh food for our community.

Want to be part of it? You don’t need to be an expert gardener or make a big time commitment. If you have 30 minutes to spare on any day of the week, we’d love to have you join the garden team.

Parish life happens in all kinds of ways.

Sometimes it looks like lunch around a table. Sometimes it means picking up a paintbrush. Sometimes it means planting something now that someone else will harvest later.

Different days, different people, different ways of being part of a community.

We’re grateful to be doing it together.

Thank you for helping keep the State Street Free Pantry stocked. ❤️

Every bag of groceries, every item placed in the pantry, every volunteer who checks the shelves, and every contribution helps make food available to neighbors who need it.

The pantry is used every day, and keeping it stocked is truly a community effort.

The prep work is done. Now it’s time for paint! 🎨

Over the past several work party days, volunteers have been busy cleaning and preparing the patio area at St. John’s. This Saturday, August 15, we’ll take the next step with a Paint the Patio Wall Work Party.

We’ll get started at 9:00 a.m., with plenty of wall space ready for willing hands. Whether you can stay for the day or lend a hand for part of it, we’d be glad to have you join us.

Come help us put the finishing touch on all that prep work!

More room to grow. 🌱

The State Street Community Garden is expanding!

Garden volunteers recently met with staff from New Bethlehem Center to talk about which fresh vegetables and herbs are most appreciated by the families they serve. That conversation is helping guide what we grow as we plan for the seasons ahead.

And the garden itself is growing, too. New raised beds have been added, and some existing landscape areas are being converted to growing space, giving us even more opportunity to grow fresh produce to share with our neighbors.

If you’re walking along State Street, stop by and see what’s growing.
