June 14 - Self compassion: Inner transformation towards outward revolution? with Eden Johnson

‘Know thyself’ is an old saying for those who are on the spiritual path, but what does knowing ourselves for a world who needs so much healing? Do we just focus on the next right action? How do we sustain the love that we know in a world or a society so bent on being unloving? Explore these questions together, so we may ‘let the beauty we love, be what we do’ (Rumi).

Our preacher will join us remotely for this live service.

Bio: Eden Johnson (he/they) is the Ministerial Fellow at Metro East UU Congregation located in Glen Carbon, IL and is on the path to be a credentialed Minister with the UUMA. What excites Eden most about ministry is creative story telling, collective healing through ritual and embodied practices. Eden is originally from the lands of the Cherokee and Muscogee people also known as Atlanta, Ga. Eden holds a BA in Religious Studies, a Masters in Divinity from Boston University School of Theology and a certificate of Spiritual Direction from Still Harbor in Politicized Healing. In their free time Eden enjoys crafting, hiking, and playing with his cat Bella.

June 7 - The Path Goes Ever On and On - EDH & MJ

The steps into adulthood are many, and one is leaving the Religious Education program and becoming part of the adult congregation. During this service, we will recognize this shift for two of our youth, inviting them to cross the bridge into adult life in the church. The question we must ask at this time is what might our young people expect on the other side of that bridge, entering adulthood while the world is in turmoil. What hope might we find in the adventures ahead?

The Pride week deadline was May 17th. There is always a chance orders after that date may get in before Pride but no guarantee.

May 24 - Lora McDonald, MORE²

Lora McDonald is the Executive Director MORE2. The Metro Organization for Racial and Economic Equity (or MORE², pronounced “More Squared”) is Kansas City’s première faith based community organizing group, comprised of dozens of congregations (interfaith), not-for-profits, and individual members. We cross the lines that divide us, race, religion, geography, age, ethnicity, etc, to build relationships and, ultimately, power, to transform our communities.

May 17 - Drama in the Church with Rev. Jill Jarvis
Drama is what we create together every Sunday. And in the best possible way! We’re all participants in creating this weekly work of art, our response to a world with a distorted sense of what really matters. As we seek to engage a diverse and multigenerational congregation, how do we understand the purpose of our public-facing meaning-making? How do we weave together our individual perspectives to create something counter-cultural and transformational?

Listening to the Flowers | 10:45 | May 10

Join us on Mothers’ Day as we recognize all of those who mother and celebrate what we can learn from the flowers that surround us. This service will include people of all ages throughout, and will feature our Flower Ceremony. Please bring a flower with you and add it to a vase in the lobby before entering the service. (We will also have extra flowers for those who forget.) The Children’s Choir will sing, and we will distribute the Kemp Flowers plants to the children.
