We all want people to think highly of us, but Jesus warns about our temptation to obsess over greatness. Greatness is not something we find by looking for it. It’s something that finds us when we decide to let it go.

We hope to see you for worship at 10 AM in our Sanctuary. If you are unable to gather with us in person, then connect with us via livestream at https://SecondChurch.org/Live

Reminder: There will be no 8:15 AM or 11:15 AM services this Sunday due to the holiday weekend.

Do we have to forgive? Maybe that’s the wrong question. The question isn’t what you owe the person who hurt you. It’s who you want to become. Forgiveness is not absolution, but release. It’s choosing to surrender vengeance to God and take the next step toward becoming who He’s calling you to be. Start somewhere. Say their name to God. Then do it again tomorrow.

Life is too short to spend it carrying resentment. Our days are numbered, precious, and unrepeatable. Forgiveness frees us from letting resentment take up any more of the life we’ve been given.

Behind three days of shopping are six days of service — and nearly 90 volunteers who make it possible each week

Every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Saturday, the doors of The Don & Karen Lake Buttrey Northside Food Pantry open to neighbors. But behind those three open days are three more days of work most people never see.

Six days a week, volunteers and staff pick up donations, receive deliveries, sort food, restock shelves, maintain records, and prepare for the next shopping day.

In an average month, the pantry serves approximately 900 families representing 3,700 individuals. Making that possible requires nearly 90 volunteers every week.

“I learned a long time ago that if one is to belong, one needs to be involved,” said volunteer Ruth Twenty. “There is no better place to give back than to help those in need.”
