The name “Mighty Fortress” is taken from Psalm 94:22 which reads, “The Lord has become my fortress, and my God the rock on whom I take refuge.” The name also reflects Martin Luther’s most famous hymn, “A Mighty Fortress is Our God.” The word “evangelical” means “Christ-centered,” that is, our focus is on the life, work, and promises of Christ Jesus as found in the gospel, the good news of the Bib

le. We are called “Lutheran” to commemorate the 16th century reformer, Dr. Martin Luther, who shook up the church of his day by bringing people back to the Bible. The motto of the Lutheran Church to this day is “Scripture alone,” “Faith alone,” “Grace alone.”
