The Tel Dan Inscription, found in 1993 at an ancient site in northern Israel, is a broken stone from around 850 BC. It was set up by an Aramean king (likely Hazael, ruler of Damascus) bragging about victories over his enemies.

One line on the stone clearly says he defeated the king of Israel and the king of the “House of David” (in ancient Aramaic: byt dwd). This is the earliest mention anywhere outside the Bible of King David’s family name.

For centuries some scholars said David might be a legend because no proof existed outside Scripture. This stone changed that. It proves that by 850 BC, about 150 years after David lived, neighboring kings already knew the ruling family of Judah as “the House of David,” just like the Bible describes.

Simple truth: the Bible got the history right. King David was a real person who founded a real dynasty that lasted hundreds of years. God’s Word stands confirmed again.🙌🔥✝️
