Look for the new moon of Rajab this Sat. night

We encourages everyone to go out to look for the new crescent moon (hilal) on the evening of Saturday, Dec. 20th (after 29 days of Jumada al-Akhirah) in anticipation of the beginning of the Islamic month of Rajab (1447 AH).

Qualified Muslim astronomers and reliable visibility forecasts indicate that on Saturday evening a sighting of the new crescent moon will be unlikely throughout North America. You can check the visibility forecast for your region here.

Please go out to look for the new crescent moon and submit your moon-sighting report here. The crescent (hilal) would be visible shortly after sunset in the area above where the sun had set. It is a beautiful experience to sight its emergence, and it is a sunnah of our noble Prophet ﷺ that we hope the ummah revives.

NAIF adheres to the traditional principle that Islamic lunar months begin and end based on the confirmed sighting of the new crescent moon.

Rabiul Awwal Moon Sighting Announcement
The Moon for the month of Rabiul Awwal 1447 Hijri has NOT been sighted anywhere in Americas. Therefore, Aug. 24th is the 30th of Safar and Aug. 25th will be the 1st of Rabiul Awwal in USA.

The Blessed night of 12th Rabiul Awwal will be the night between Spt. 4th and 5th. The Blessed day of 12 Rabiun Noor will be on Friday Sept. 5th.

Rabiul Noor Sharif Mabrook to all the Muslims of the world. May Allah Tala make this Month a Month of Blessings and Happiness for the Muslim Ummah. Ameen.

Qualified Muslim astronomers and reliable visibility forecasts indicate that on Saturday evening a sighting of the new crescent moon will be unlikely in all global regions. On Sunday, the new moon should be easily visible throughout much of the world.

Please go out to look for the new crescent moon both nights and submit your moon-sighting report here.
