In the month of May alone, Family Room served 73 babies, kids, and teens as they entered a new foster home.

73 children experiencing one of the most difficult days of their lives.

73 children who needed a safe place to sleep, clothes that fit, diapers, car seats, hygiene items, food, comfort, and the reassurance that they matter.

73 times a foster parent said “yes” to caring for a child, often with little notice and many unknowns.

And 73 times, this community helped empower that yes.

This is the highest number of children Family Room has ever served in a single month since opening our doors in 2018.
While the number reflects a staggering need, it also reflects something powerful: a community that continues to show up for children in foster care.

Every donated bed.
Every package of diapers.
Every dresser.
Every volunteer hour.
Every monthly sustainer gift. Every donation drive.
Every act of kindness helped make these 73 new beginnings possible.

Our vision is simple but bold:

“A world where every person, in every community, supports children in foster care.”

In May, we saw that vision come to life 73 times.

Family Room is a space where children in care often come without anything. We are a space that not only gives them things they need, but also a space to learn and know that they are loved, valued, and important.

They provide families that foster and the children in their care with resources they need, such as: beds, clothes, toys, strollers, cribs, blankets, etc.

Resources are always provided at no cost to families that foster
Family Room is a safe, loving environment where children can feel comfortable and accepted.

As National Foster Care Awareness comes to a close today we hope that each one of you reading this will continue the journey to be more aware of what it is truly like for babies, kids and teens in foster care as well as what it’s really like for the foster parents who daily care for them and take the next step to help them.

We believe that not everyone can foster but EVERYONE can help! And there are so many ways to help. Family Room is a place where everyone in every community can help support children in foster care all over North Carolina.

Sunday - May 31 - game starts at 2pm!
Join us for Family Room Day at the Greensboro Grasshoppers sponsored by Midtown Financial and help support babies entering foster care!

Bring diapers and wipes to help us “Fill the Dugout” with some of the most needed items for children coming into foster care. Every donation helps foster parents say yes when a baby needs a safe place to go.

Come early and enjoy the chance to play catch on the field before the game!

Something many people are not aware of, or simply have not thought about, is how difficult it is for children in foster care to not know how their parents and family members are doing.
Even young children, especially pre-teens and teens, worry about their parents health, their physical safety, their emotional well being, if they have enough to eat, if they are lonely - all while having to navigate being in a home that’s not theirs with people who are not their family.
This is a heavy burden no child should have to carry, yet kids in foster care do and the foster families need to be able to help them navigate those worries that turn into big feelings, which can turn into big actions.
“Is mom safe?” They ask
“Does dad have enough to eat?” they ask
“Is she happy?” They wonder
“Does she miss me?” They fret
“Is he warm ?”
“ does she have a comfortable place to sleep?”

These and so many other worries go through their minds more often the we realize. Something we all need to be aware of that kids in foster care have to deal with. Most foster parents do not have the answers to these questions - but they wish they did so they could ease the hearts and minds of the kids in their homes.

Tuesday night, the City of Greensboro recognized Family Room during the city council meeting for Foster Care Awareness Month and the work being done to serve children and foster families in our community.
Thank you
It was such an honoring moment, not just for our team, but for our entire community.

Awareness matters because so many people still don’t fully realize the realities children in foster care are facing every day, even right here in our own county.

At Family Room, we are now serving families across 50 counties in North Carolina, and we are incredibly humbled to walk alongside foster families and children by providing support, encouragement, and tangible resources during some of life’s hardest moments.

This recognition was a reminder that this work takes all of us.

Our community has continued to step up in incredible ways—and the need is still great. We are so grateful to everyone who has supported, volunteered, donated, partnered, or simply helped raise awareness.

Every child deserves to feel seen, cared for, and supported.

And we are honored to be part of that work every single day. 🤍
