Greetings:
To everything, there is a season...
As a supporter and friend of NEAC, we are writing to advise you that the NEAC Board of Directors voted recently to dissolve and close the organization. This difficult decision came after much prayerful discernment, and was mostly influenced by the lack of dependable and sustainable funding. As we celebrate the medical advances over the past three and half decades that have greatly improved the prognosis and quality of life for people living with HIV/AIDS, we are well aware of the changing and challenging landscape for engagement and support with this disease. We are not alone, as many HIV/AIDS service, support, and advocacy organizations are adapting, changing, merging, or closing. While NEAC will no longer exist, we are leaving behind a legacy website containing limited information and resources. The new website address is www.neaclegacy.wordpress.com.
This year, NEAC provided a substantial gift to support the final HIV/AIDS Retreat at Kanuga in North Carolina. Many of the 240 attendees from around the country were able to receive significant scholarship support to be able to attend this special weekend. As we strive to be good stewards of the funds entrusted to our care, the Board has thoughtfully identified six active and vital HIV/AIDS ministries or organizations in the United States, and these organizations will be the beneficiaries of NEAC’s remaining funds. You are an important part of this legacy, and we thank you.
We are proud of NEAC’s presence and voice at a time when it was most needed, and we believe that NEAC has helped to open hearts and minds about HIV/AIDS, not only in the Episcopal Church, but well beyond its walls. May we all find grace, compassion, and strength as we challenge the stigma that continues to give HIV/AIDS life. The work must continue through all of us - until it is finished.
We remember all who have died from AIDS, those left to grieve, and all those currently living with or affected by this disease. May we pray with hope and certainty for a future without HIV/AIDS.
With Gratitude, in Christ’s abiding love,
The NEAC Board of Directors
