Lewis George Garst, age 87, passed away at his home in Springfield, TN August 30, 2026. He was born in Fortville, Indiana to the late George and Patricia (Langsford) Garst, January 20, 1939.
Lewis will be remembered as a devout Christian and his passion for the Catholic faith. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Franklin, KY since 1979. He also served on the parish council and other ministries over the years. Lewis was a lifelong member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a member of The Legion Mary at Our Lady of Lourdes in Springfield, TN, where he cherished the time spent in prayer with his fellow Legionnaires.
After 20 years of service, he retired from working at Kirby Building Systems in Portland, TN. Prior to that, he worked at Western Electric in Indianapolis, IN for 19 years. Lewis also served in the Army National Guard. During all this time, he most enjoyed working on his farm with his family raising crops and cattle.
He is survived by his sister, Margaret Garst, his children Jeff (Michelle) Garst, and Julie (Wayne) Grant. Grandchildren: Josh Grant, Grant (Rachel) Garst, Maegan (Tommy) Smith, Kristina Grant, and Audrey Grant. Great grandchildren: Bailey and Mason Grant, Grantley and Presley Garst. Great-Great grandchild: Neyland Werner.
Lewis was preceded in death by his wife Helen, his parents George and Patricia, his sisters Agnes Tebbe, Elizabeth Garst, Sister Danielle Garst, and brother Daniel Garst.
He is a cherished Dad, Father-in-Law, Poppy, Brother, Uncle, Cousin, Friend, and Child of God who will be deeply missed
Funeral and visitation will be held Friday September 11th at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Franklin KY. Visitation will start at 9am until the funeral Mass at 12 noon. There will be the Holy Rosary and the Chaplet of Divine Mercy prayed at 11am. The internment will take place at Greenlawn Cemetery in Franklin KY following the funeral Mass.
