📚 Building Strong Readers from the Very Beginning! 📚

Our Literacy Night was a wonderful evening of books, words, learning, and fun! Organized by our librarian and lower elementary teachers, the evening gave families practical and engaging ways to build both strong reading skills and a lifelong love of books in their children.

From Reader’s Theater and word games to read-alouds and other literacy activities, families had the chance to experience something we believe deeply at Ascension: strong readers are built one story, one word, and one page at a time.

Ascension has a long history of producing strong readers. Each year, our students read millions of words through the Accelerated Reader program. By the time they reach middle school, they are examining classic works of literature, wrestling with challenging vocabulary, exploring complex themes, and learning to think deeply about what they read.
But that kind of reading doesn’t begin in middle school. It begins when children are small—curled up with a good book, listening to a favorite story for the hundredth time, playing with words, sounding out their first sentences, and discovering that reading can open an entire world to them.

We are so thankful for our librarian and teachers who organized this special evening, and for the families who joined us in celebrating and nurturing a love of reading. ❤️📖

Today’s little readers are tomorrow’s deep thinkers—and it all begins with a love of books.

Yesterday during chapel, we had the joy of celebrating students (and staff!) whose baptismal birthdays fall in July and August.

As we learn in our catechism studies, baptism "works forgiveness of sins, rescues from death and the devil, and gives eternal salvation to all who believe this, as the words and promises of God declare."

We are grateful to partner with families in nurturing our students in knowledge and wisdom while continually pointing them to Christ and the promises He has given them. This partnership between church, home, and school is at the heart of who we are at Ascension.

Meet our teachers!

We're excited to introduce Mrs. Ehle, our wonderful 1st & 2nd grade teacher! With over 14 years of teaching experience, she is passionate about helping young learners discover the joy of reading and writing while building a strong academic foundation for years to come. Her classroom is a place where students grow in confidence, curiosity, and a love of learning—with Christ always at the center.

Celebrating America's 250th birthday!

Last week Ascension Lutheran School's librarian, Mrs. Bush, organized a special event during the summer reading program to celebrate our nation's birthday. Families met George and Martha Washington, heard a reading of the Declaration of Independence, and enjoyed food and activities.

A classical, Christian education may now be within reach for more Indiana families!

Indiana’s expanded Choice Scholarship Program has removed income requirements, meaning every K–12 student in Indiana can participate and qualify for tuition support for each child.

Ascension Lutheran Classical School is accepting applications for grades K-8 for the 2026–2027 school year. We’d love to connect with your family and share more about our mission at Ascension.

We are thankful for the many volunteers helping out with VBS this year! From decorating to teaching songs to leading devotions- they have been joyfully sharing how Jesus came to seek and to save.

Come with us on a Tropical Trek where we will learn how Jesus came to seek and save the lost (Luke 19:10)! As we traverse fun and exciting places, like a dormant volcano and island caves, we'll discover how God finds us and helps us in every challenge we face. Through hands-on activities, dynamic storytelling, creative crafts, energetic songs, and meaningful discussions, kids will discover five Bible stories that show how God is always there for them.

Join us for this epic summer adventure! We are now registering children ENTERING PREK - 6TH GRADE for VBS. Invite your friends and neighbors as well! Registration is FREE!

We also welcome additional volunteers - both teens and adults! Students entering 7th grade or older are encouraged to sign up to volunteer during the week. From decorating to running games to leading a small group - there.are lots of ways to help!

Congratulations to the Ascension Lutheran School Class of 2026!

Last evening we celebrate an incredible group of graduating 8th graders who have grown into fine young men and women and truly embody our school's Portraits of a Graduate.

Throughout their time at Ascension, they have pursued excellence both inside and outside the classroom — participating in sports, drama, and music while earning many academic achievements along the way. More importantly, they have shown themselves to be bold confessors and defenders of their faith, reflecting Christ in the way they lead, serve, and support others.

As they step into this next chapter, we are reminded of their class verse, Psalm 121:7–8:
"The Lord will keep you from all evil—He will keep your life; The Lord will keep your going out and your coming in from this time forth and forevermore."

We pray these words remain with them wherever God leads them. We are proud of the people they have become and grateful to have been part of their journey. May God continue to guide their steps, strengthen their faith, and bless them abundantly.

We wish each of you the very best in all that lies ahead!

Our 5th-8th grade students had a wonderful time on this week’s class trip to the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force, the Creation Museum, and the Ark Encounter! From exploring historic aircraft and learning about aviation history to experiencing interactive exhibits that brought biblical history to life, the trip was filled with memorable learning opportunities and fun experiences together.

At the Creation Museum, students explored immersive exhibits that pointed to the truth of God’s Word from the very beginning of Scripture. Highlights included walking through life-sized models of the Garden of Eden, enjoying a planetarium show, and viewing beautifully detailed displays that helped answer important questions about creation and the Bible.

Students were also amazed by the Ark Encounter, home to the world’s largest freestanding timber-frame structure. As they explored the three massive decks of exhibits, they learned about what life aboard Noah’s ark may have been like, flood geology, the Ice Age, and much more. They even had a surprise meeting with Ken Ham!

A huge thank you to Mrs. Behnfeldt and Mrs. Gier for the many hours of planning and organizing that made this trip possible. We are also so grateful to all of our wonderful chaperones for giving their time, energy, and support to help make this experience such a success for our students!
