Beacon Heights Church of the Brethren

Beacon Heights Church of the Brethren Living peacefully, simply, together. Beacon Heights Church believes everyone is a child of God. We strive to be a safe place for all who are seeking God's love.

We welcome all people, of any age, gender identity, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, family status, socioeconomic status, physical ability, mental ability, or place along their faith journey. Beacon Heights is a living peace church, following the New Testament calling to "Love your neighbor as yourself" (Matthew 19:19b). We are a community called through the work of Christ Jesus to nurture th

e dignity and wholeness of all people. We believe it is necessary to practice and promote justice in human relationships. Through our wide welcome, Beacon Heights Church of the Brethren seeks to live out the motto of the Church of the Brethren... Continuing the work of Jesus. Peacefully. Simply. Together.

Parables: there are many ways to interpret them. I feel especially intrigued by this one and what it means about our spiritual health; what we can and cannot do; what we need God to do; and who or what Jesus is. And, psssst – let me share a secret. I’m not satisfied with Jesus’ explanation in Mark. Come along with me to find out why – and to ponder how this story urges us into a deeper relationship with Jesus anyway.

50 years of resilience and resistance!

We filled the library lobby: browsing the timeline, thumbing through decades of t-shirts, greeting old friends, meeting new friends, and eating popcorn as we gathered for the Brethren Mennonite Council for LGBT Interests' 50th Anniversary, May 29-31, 2026.The 50th Anniversary choir had gathered imme...

Welcome and Hospitality are a core part of our faith community. In this scripture, God asks the Israelites (and us!) to dig even deeper – expanding our vision of hospitality in new ways. This hospitality is more than having someone over for dinner, or greeting a visitor on Sunday morning (although those are really good things to do!). This is hospitality that becomes part of us and is lived out in our spirit, actions, and words with others and the earth. It’s the kind of hospitality that knows that everything and everyone is connected. It includes compassion, sharing, resting, and justice. And it’s counter-cultural in a society that celebrates hyper-productivity, individualism, and tribalism (of various sorts!). Let’s explore the ways we can encourage one another as God’s servants learning, growing, and stretching ourselves into radical hospitality.

On Earth Peace has long been supported through the Beacon Heights budget but what is it? Why do we include it as part of our witness every year?

During Meet and Eat this Sunday we will look briefly at its 50 year history and then talk about its current efforts to bring civility, healing, and peace into today’s chaotic world. To get a jumpstart, feel free to explore its website at onearthpeace.org

Mothers and Fathers do not need to fit into a box (non-binary and transgender parents know that well!). Even so, many of us associate certain character traits with gender. In this service, we’ll contemplate the tender (and traditional) “mothering” side of God – as a God who wipes away tears; gives us refreshing drinks of water and nutritious food; is by our side, cheering us on; calls us her children; and whose face of light and love shines on us. Even Jesus and the Spirit join in – offering us an invitation. Whether our parents and families on earth leave something to be desired – or are even toxic – this vision offers us the best kind of family care!
