Friday Devotional

Matthew 18:21-22 (ESV)
Then Peter came up and said to him, “Lord, how often will my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? As many as seven times?” Jesus said to him, “I do not say to you seven times, but seventy-seven times.

It Cost
This week I’ve been thinking a lot about forgiveness, the truth is forgiveness is hard, it cost us something. If you’re ever going to walk in true forgiveness it’s going to require you to pay. In my own life I have struggled at times with forgiveness. While I have always thought I was a person of forgiveness it was not until I was confronted with my true feelings about an individual that it hit me that I really wasn’t. It’s hard to admit our inability to truly be like Jesus because we justify that we have the right to hate that person. I for one have lived my life this way for a long time. I felt that because this person had caused us so much pain and inflicted so much destruction that I could write them off and never communicate with them again. It was only when I came face to face with them again did I realize I had forgave them with my mouth but not in my heart. The truth is pain in what others do to us taints our heart which in turn affects our thinking. If there is one thing we need to do and that is walk in forgiveness, it’s not always easy, it carries a weight we have to cut loss, but in the end forgiveness is and always will be the right choice. Maybe your forgiveness will require you to go beyond what you feel you can do. Maybe your forgiveness comes by making amends and then letting them go from your life. No matter the case, the circumstances, or the ending, let forgiveness be the center of your life. Remember Peter asked the question and Jesus gave the answer, forgive!

Pastor Bret

Say this prayer:
Dear Lord help me to walk in forgiveness and let go of the hurt. I know that through you I can be a person who forgives. Thank you for all you do and for the victories I’m seeing in my life. In Jesus Christ’s name I pray, amen!

Whatever you find your hands doing today, do it for His glory. ✨

Colossians 3:17 reminds us that our daily lives, big or small, are acts of worship when done in Jesus' name and wrapped in thankfulness.

Friday Devotional

James 4:14-15 (ESV)
yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes. Instead you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that.”

Slow Down
Someone once said time is one of our greatest enemies and while that’s a profound statement I have to say it gets me thinking. Do you ever find yourself wishing time would slow down, I know I do. It seems like time is moving faster than I can keep up. As I think about it I have to wonder, is it because we make our days so full, is it because society is so on the move we move with it. When’s the last time you walked outside and smelled the air, or listened to the birds, when’s the last time you just sat down and took everything in? I think a big part of the problem is we are schedule orientated people. Most everyone lives by the next event instead of enjoying the day. I love the saying in the kids movie, Kung Fu Panda when the slow paced turtle Master Oogway says, “yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift, that is why it is called the present.” You and I need to live today, not yesterday, not tomorrow, but today. You want time to slow down, live today, stop thinking about what didn’t happen yesterday that rolls over in today, stop thinking about tomorrow because today is a gift. Remember a lot of people won’t have today, but we have it. It’s time we slow time down by controlling what we let in instead of what we’re letting in controlling us.

Pastor Bret

Say this prayer:
Dear Lord I know time is moving me instead of me moving it, help me to take back what’s being taken. Today Lord I’m slowing down and I’m giving more to you and living more for me. Thank you for all you do and for the victories I’m seeing in my life. In Jesus Christ’s name I pray, amen!

Friday Devotional

Hebrews 13:8 (ESV)
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.

Don’t Change Your Swing
I was listening to an interview with the late great Pete Rose and he was talking how everyone players goes through slumps! As he was talking he said no matter how you feel, how long it takes never adjust your swing, he said move around, adjust yourself in the batters box but never change your swing, because that’s what got you to the major leagues. As I thought on this it made me think, we need to do the same thing. I love how God is the same always, he doesn’t change, that’s how we need to be, we need to stop changing who we are in him. So many times we change who we are in Christ because of how we are feeling or what we are going through at the moment. In the end that’s one of the worst things we can do! What got you to where you are is Christ and we need to not forget that. Listen there are times we need adjusting, we need to switch things up, there is nothing wrong with that. It’s when we allow the enemy to trick us into giving up what brought us to the place we are with Christ. Maybe your in a slump with life, maybe this has been a difficult season your walking through, maybe people have let you down, don’t give up, don’t change your swing because you will be back on top again.

Pastor Bret

Say this prayer:
Dear Lord when life happens help me to stay on course with you. Let me see your glory and start focusing on what you are doing not what I’m going through. Thank you for all you do and for the victories I’m seeing in my life. In Jesus Christ’s name I pray, amen!
