We’re excited to share something new happening at Trinity Church!

A couple of times each month, we’ve started gathering to play Castles & Crusades, a fantasy adventure role-playing game that gives us a fun way to build friendships, exercise creativity, and explore themes like courage, sacrifice, virtue, and the battle between good and evil through a Christian lens.

Think of it as collaborative storytelling: a group of people setting out on an adventure together, solving problems, facing challenges, and learning what it means to work as a team. It’s a lot of fun, with plenty of laughs along the way.

This isn’t replacing Bible study or worship, of course, but it is another way to build Christian community.

We held our Second Annual Star Wars Steak Night on Sunday evening, with twenty-nine people in attendance. Fr. David gave a presentation on how George Lucas drew from his Christian upbringing to portray the struggle between good and evil, light and dark. He also emphasized how each of us can resist evil in our daily lives.

Afterward, the kids participated in a bit of indoor pod racing. The steaks, fellowship and learning were excellent. It was indeed a blessed evening.

We’re doing a bit of catch-up on recent events here on our page, and we wanted to take a moment to say a big thank you to longtime Trinity member and vestryman Ken Grant.

When Ken isn’t directing our choir, teaching bagpipes, or serving as First Deputy of Elections for Vanderbergh County—the third-largest county in Indiana—he can be found stepping into the role of St. George.

As part of our recent teaching with the children, we spent time learning about St. George in the Christian tradition. We talked about what it means to look up to the saints, not as distant or mythical figures, but as real Christian witnesses who point us to Christ through their example of courage, faithfulness, and endurance.

We also explored the history of St. George as a Christian martyr and witness, and what his story has meant for many generations of Christians over the centuries.

Each child was also given a book on St. George to take home, so they could continue learning and reflecting on his example.

We are grateful for moments like these that help form our children in the story of the Church and the faith once delivered to the saints.

On Good Friday we had our Annual Meatless Dinner. The Tenebrae service, from the Latin tenebrae meaning darkness, was the original Good Friday service. It preserves the earliest form of the liturgy for Christ’s passion. Candles are gradually extinguished to mark the world’s darkness at Christ’s crucifixion. The service leads the faithful into the sorrow of the Passion while pointing to the hope of the Resurrection.

This Easter Sunday at Trinity Anglican Church, we gave thanks to God for the life and legacy of Mrs. Shirley Mount.

Shirley was one of the founding members of our parish, and her influence is still found in this church. For many years, she served faithfully as Altar Guild Directress and as a member of the Vestry, bringing both devotion and excellence to everything she did.

Originally from London, England, Shirley was raised in the Anglican Christian tradition she loved so dearly. In fact, she received Altar Guild training from Archbishop of Canterbury Michael Ramsey, and she went on to share that knowledge by leading workshops and training others with the same care and reverence she embodied.

Beyond the church, Shirley led a remarkable professional life. With a degree in Chemistry, she played a key role in the development of the first metered-dose inhaler (MDI) for asthma treatment in the mid-1950s through Rexall Drugs, helping to improve the lives of countless people.

Shirley and her husband Ron were married for over fifty years, a testament to faithfulness and love. Together, they were deeply involved in the founding and growth of Trinity, and their legacy continues to shape who we are today. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and lifelong Anglican Christian.

Shirley entered into the nearer presence of our Lord on September 21, 2021, but her witness remains.

This Easter, we honored her memory by restoring a vintage Paschal candle holder and displaying it at our Easter service in her honor. It stands as a quiet but beautiful reminder of a life lived in faithful service to Christ and His Church.

“Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord… that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them.” (Revelation 14:13)
