Our main gathering for dinner, games, talks, small groups, and prayer

🌤️ CREDO
A Bible study focused on helping you to keep your attention on the readings for the upcoming Sunday Mass, as we look at their meaning and purpose

📖 CATECHISM CLASS
Father Jack will take a look at the reasoning and traditions behind our faith

A night to look at what Youth Group looks like for your teen

He was a Christian at 33, a priest at 36, and a bishop at 41

His life as lived with intensity

The prayers of his mother, St. Monica, and support of a priest, St. Ambrose, led him to God

Having been immersed deeply in a life of sin, his conversion came as a shock to many

He entered into his faith in a deeply profound way

His life is documented in his work, “Confessions”

He is a Doctor of the Church

Happy Feast Day of St. Monica 🙌

Her life could have made her a nagging wife, a bitter daughter-in-law, or a despairing parent

Instead, she became a Saint

Her parents gave her in marriage to a pagan who lived in her hometown in North Africa and he was often violent

Even her mother-in-law, who lived with them, was difficult

They criticized her charity and piety

Her prayers and example finally won them over, as her husband was baptized a year before his death

Augustine, her oldest child, lived an immoral life, and even at times was not allowed to eat or sleep at home

Then one night she had a vision that he would return to faith

At 29, he tricked her and set sail for Rome, but she followed

When she arrived he had already left for Milan, where he met Saint Ambrose

Ambrose became Monica’s spiritual director

And eventually he baptized Augustine and several of his friends

Almost all we know of her life comes from Augustine’s writings in his “Confessions”

Happy Feast Day of St. Louis of France 🙌

At his coronation as king of France, Louis IX bound himself by oath to serve God

Other kings did that, of course, but Louis meant it

After the violence of the previous two kings, he brought peace and justice

He was devoted to his people, as he founded hospitals and visited the sick

France was united by the force of his personality and holiness

Ever day, he served thirteen special guests from among the poor to eat with him

Disturbed by Muslim advances, he began a crusade to North Africa

Within a month of landing at Carthage, the army camp was decimated by disease

He died there at the age of 56 and was canonized 27 years later

Happy Feast Day of St. Bernard of Clairvaux 🙌

In the year 1111, at the age of 20, Bernard left his home to join the monastic community of Citeaux

His 5 brothers, 2 uncles, and 20 friends followed him to the monastery

Within four years, a dying community had recovered enough vitality to establish a new house

Bernard was the abbot, or the man in charge

The valley it was in was soon after renamed Clairvaux, the valley of light

He intervened many times in the difficulties of Rome, and helped settle a full blown schism

The Vatican asked him to preach to the crusaders

The project became a moral and military disaster

He felt responsible in many ways, and it is believed the burden hastened his death

Happy Feast Day of St. Helena 🙌

She was the mother of the Roman Emperor Constantine

Early in the fourth century she went to the Holy Land in search of artifacts of Christ’s life

Her son built the Basilica of the Holy Sepulcher over the place of Jesus’ tomb

During the excavation workers found three crosses

Legend has it that Helena had the sick lay on each one

One of them healed a dying woman instantly

At a Good Friday service they had a piece of the cross out and instructed the faithful to bow down, place it to their forehead, then to their eyes, and then they would kiss it

Thus the veneration of the cross began

Her faith remains a source of inspiration and discovery
