The Freedom of Needing God

Scripture:
Matthew 5:3; Isaiah 66:2; Romans 3:23

Devotional:
The kingdom does not begin with what you bring to God. It begins with recognizing what you lack without Him. Spiritual poverty is not a weakness to be ashamed of; it is the very posture God is looking for. Isaiah describes the person God looks to as humble and contrite in spirit. When you stop arriving at God's throne with your hands full of your own ability, your own plans, and your own strength, you finally have open hands to receive what only He can give. Dependency on God is not the bottom of the ladder. It is the first rung of kingdom living.

Reflection:
Where in your life have you been operating in self-sufficiency rather than surrender? Bring that area before God today with open hands.

If you haven’t been following along with us, we’re in an extended journey through the book of Matthew, taking it verse by verse.

This Sunday, we’re stepping into Matthew 5–7 and beginning one of the most well known teachings of Jesus: The Sermon on the Mount.

We’ll kick things off with the Beatitudes and unpack what Jesus is really revealing about the kind of people His Kingdom produces when it takes root in our hearts.

These next few weeks are going to be powerful. You don’t want to miss it!

Join the churches of Nashville on Sunday, August 2, as we come together in community and unity to pray over our local schools, students, teachers, administrators, staff, and school board.

We’ll meet at Primary School at 6:00 PM and travel together to each location:
