Words of Wisdom: Interpret the signs

There are many signs we see on a daily basis, the most common ones being traffic signs. Some are informative; some are cautionary. Perhaps these signs have a deeper meaning than we think. Let’s see.

Go…. Go quickly towards your final destination. Do not waver. Do not have doubts; do not procrastinate.

Stop…. Stop your whining. Stop complaining about your misfortune. If you are able to afford two square meals a day and have a roof over your head, you are already luckier than hundreds of millions in the world.

Yield…. Yield not to temptation. Every time you resist temptation you have scored victory over your mind, and that feels really good. Doesn’t it?

Danger Ahead…. Your friends are misguiding you. Do not cave into pressure from your peers. Stand your ground and do the right thing.

Proceed with Caution…. Exercise caution in life. Your sense organs face outwards, and your mind takes delight in interacting with the world. Take care not to get overly involved with material life.

Road Closed…. This road is closed, but there is a better road a little up ahead. It is newer and easier to navigate.

Speed bump…. There are speed bumps in life. These are necessary to make you grow and make you into a better version of yourself.

Words of Wisdom: Need vs. Greed

A person may have a lot of money, good looks, name and fame but when he sees someone who is wealthier, better looking and more famous he feels he doesn’t have enough. His mansion seems small to him. He wants to add to the fleet of cars that he already has. He is an actor being paid $1 million per episode on a hit TV show, but he feels miserable when he finds out that another actor on another show is being paid $1.25 million per episode.

Most people in the world don’t live in a mansion, nor do they own a fleet of cars. Nevertheless, we feel dissatisfied with what we have when we see someone who has more than us. Take the example of Average Joe. There was a time he wanted to rent a decent apartment, like his cousin. He got what he wanted, and he was satisfied until his best friend bought a house. Now Average Joe also wanted a house and bought it. After some time, he wanted to have the kind of furniture people are impressed with. Just like the furniture his brother has. There is always someone who has more than him, so Average Joe is never satisfied.

A man was travelling. When night fell, he decided to rest in an inn. The inn was full that day and the man had to share a room with an ascetic who had also sought shelter for the night. There was a simple cot for the man to sleep on, and he was given a blanket for warmth on that cold night. The man tried to sleep, but he couldn’t. He found the blanket to be too small. Sometimes he would pull the blanket up, which made his legs and feet cold. Sometimes he pulled the blanket down, which made his upper body feel cold. The man did this for two hours. The holy man woke up and saw what the man was doing. He said, “My good man! You are trying to fit the blanket to your body. You would do better to fit your body to the blanket! Curl up your body so that it’s covered by the blanket.”

Look around your house. Do you have everything to satisfy your needs? Then look into your heart. Are you looking to satisfy your needs, or are you a victim of greed? Ask yourself, “Am I trying to fit my body to the blanket, or am I trying to fit the blanket to my body?”

Words of Wisdom: A Letter from God

I don’t know who wrote the words below, but it’s a poignant reminder to think of our Creator, Lord and Master every day. I have edited the message for brevity.

My Dear,

When you woke up this morning, I was standing right next to your bed. I thought you would take some time to talk with Me then. But you just quickly drank a cup of coffee and got ready for work, and didn’t even bother to look at Me.

Still, I was optimistic. I thought we might have some time together after your shower. But you got caught up in deciding which clothes you were going to wear today.

After that, when you were eating your breakfast and walking around getting your things together, I was hoping to get some of your attention. But that didn’t happen either.

Then, when you sat in your car to go to work, I assumed that would be a great time for you to talk to me. Instead, you started making phone calls. And I just stood there. I wanted to tell you to spend a part of your day with Me so you could see how simply and easily you could finish all your chores and to-do’s. But you didn’t bother talking to Me.

There was even that time when you were completely idle and just lounging in your chair for a full 15 minutes … but even then you didn’t think of Me.

At your lunch break, when you were looking around while eating, I hoped you would take a moment to remember Me … but to no avail.

Still, there was time before the day ended. I thought at some point an opportunity would come up for us to chat. But after you got home from work, you got busy with your household stuff. Then, you turned on the TV, and watched it for 3 hours.

Then, late tonight, you were so exhausted and finally carried yourself to bed. You tucked yourself under the sheets and fell asleep. I was so eager and enthusiastic about being a part of your day. Getting to spend time with you. Listening to you. Talking to you, so I could shed some light on your path and help you understand why you came into this world, and how wrapped up you’ve become in frivolous worldly stuff. But you had no time, and I had to painfully restrain My temptation to speak with you.

I love you so much. Every passing day, I am earnestly longing to hear from you. But you only come to Me in times of need. You bring Me a long list of demands, and then you’re gone in a flash. It’s amusing, in a way. You don’t care enough to look at Me because your mind is so busy with worldly people … while I, on the other hand, just keep waiting for you.

Well, I guess that’s okay. It’s possible that you will think of Me one day. I have waited an eternity, and will continue to wait for you.

Yours always,
God

Words of Wisdom: Important Lessons

Today I am going to share with you some important lessons I have learned in life.

* People are basically good.
* By insulting another you insult yourself.
* Harsh words are extremely difficult to forget.
* Keep flatterers at an arm’s length.
* There is more than one way of doing the same work.
* Your way of doing it may not be the best way.
* We always come highly recommended by our own mind.
* Artificial praise is easily detected.
* God always has a plan.
* It is best to accept your mistakes.
* Loss of self-respect is the biggest loss of all.
* Practice makes perfect.
* Sense of humor is a must.
* Don’t just hear what the other person is saying; listen to him.
* A daily appointment with God is a must.

Words of Wisdom: Trust God

In theory you say that God is all-knowing, all-pervading and all powerful. You also accept that there is no well-wisher greater than God. On a practical level you have seen and experienced many of His graces in life. He has saved you countless times from harm and has provided unlimited inspiration. When you were down, He was the one who lifted you. When you were falling, He was the one who caught you in His loving arms.

Then why do you lack faith? Why do you become frightened and nervous? What is the reason behind your doubts? Why do you think He has forsaken you?

Do you not know that He hears even the footsteps of a tiny ant? Do you not know that He sees even the smallest creature and dwells within it? He has countless eyes and unlimited ears. If not He, then who knows what you have need of? Why do you worry unnecessarily?

Trust His decisions. He sees the full picture, whereas you see only part of it. Put yourself in the hands of the Omniscient, Omnipresent and Omnipotent one and allow Him to steer the chariot of your life.

Words of Wisdom: Get up early in the morning

If you are not already doing so, develop the habit of getting up early in the morning, and start the day with quiet reflection. This will set the pace for the day, whether you are going to school, working outside or at home. Keep the same habit on the weekend. You will find that you will be calm and peaceful all day long, even though there may be chaos all around.

In the early hours of the morning there are pure vibrations in the atmosphere that will help you calm down and inspire you to think good and pure thoughts. Before the morning rush begins, luxuriate in the silence that surrounds you. In that silence it becomes easier to think of God. Think of Him; thank Him; acknowledge His presence. Then take Him with you and make Him an essential part of your day.

Are you up yet?

Words of Wisdom: Have you noticed?

We become more resourceful when we are lacking resources.

Kindness and Compassion are very important traits in a person.

Birds sing very beautifully in April.

Life can throw a curveball when you least expect it.

Humans are extremely resilient; we adjust quickly.

Even though we have more time, we are not finding time for daily devotion.

Home is not such a terrible place after all.

Homemade food is simply the best, even if it’s very simple.

Life is like a bubble rising in water one moment only to burst the next.

Nature shows us the perfect color combinations.

When put through challenges, we show our true mettle.

Something we cannot even see has brought us all to our knees.

Behind that something is Someone we cannot see who has brought us to our knees.

The ways of God are very mysterious.
