What a joy to partner with Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota and be a small part of the transformative work they do with homeless youth in the Northland. This is a true Easter celebration: new life for young people when they receive services, care, and love in community.
Another Door, a Lutheran Social Service longer-term emergency youth shelter in Duluth, opened in a new expanded space at Peace United Church of Christ just over a year ago — and the results are remarkable!
With ability to serve up to 10 youth at a time, we are thrilled to report that over the past year, 31 youth have not only received safe housing but also a continuum of care with a stronger focus on independent living skills and employment. With this essential support, 23 youth have either reunited with their families or moved to transitional or permanent housing while others continue working with our team.
“This project is a wonderful example of the amazing good that comes when public partners, faith communities and social service organizations lean into what we can each offer to improve well-being for our neighbors,” said Dawn, senior director of family services and Duluth Area youth services.
