MEET KEVIN

Kevin Vaughan is Associate Professor of Theology and Religious Studies and Director of the Braegelmann Program in Catholic Studies at CSS. Kevin is originally from Ontario, Canada, and misses being able to cross the border to visit family during the pandemic. When not teaching theology and Catholic Studies, Kevin spends most of his time with his family, taking hikes through Duluth’s majestic trail system, and listening to the latest adventures of the My Little Ponies from his two young daughters.

MEET SISTER MARY JOSEPHINE

I am Sister Mary Josephine Torborg, a Benedictine Sister of St. Scholastica Monastery. As a Sister, I have served as a Primary School Teacher, Dietitian and as an Associate Professor of theology and religion.
Following a passion that I had for spreading the Good News beyond the classroom, I directed a series of 13 weekend Spirituality Conferences on various topics of concern in the church and society.
It was this same passion that challenged me to be involved in the CSS Youth Theology Program for high school students. I loved working with the students in this program. One of my favorite parts of the program was finding a Sister mentor for each student who would pray for this student and write letters etc. to this student. I loved to see their faces light up when they first met their sister mentor face to face. They had a wonderful time talking with them during their dinner at the monastery and their conversation time after the meal. Another wonderful time was seeing the students paint rocks with their name on it as part of one of my classes with them. The rocks were beautiful.
Some of my hobbies are candle making, gardening, playing the organ, reading, and visiting with family and friends.

MEET JESSICA

My name is Jessica Ellingson. I’m a mom, wife, runner, gardener, and campus minister. Even though I have been at CSS for around 13 years, I continue to enjoy getting lost running on the back trails on campus. Running gives me a chance to explore, breathe, and re-center, especially when the busyness of life gets to me. I am happy to continue being part of the Youth Theology Institute because I love that it also gives you all a chance to explore, breathe, and re-center as you reflect on who you are and who you are called to be. Whether it is through the YTI or through my role in campus ministry with CSS students, I consider it a gift to walk this journey with you.
