After many months of preparation, we will at last begin to hold services in our new location this weekend. We will serve Vespers at this evening at 5 PM, and then Sunday morning we will begin with Matins at 9 AM followed by Divine Liturgy at 10 AM. Please join us for this joyous occasion if you are able. And thank you to everyone who has worked, donated, and prayed to help make this happen!

“Our thoughts are like rain, which is itself a gift from God, but if your house has no roof, it can destroy everything you own within. That’s how it is with thoughts. If we don’t guard and keep the thoughts out of the house of our soul, they can destroy everything inside our house, everything inside our soul.” - Bishop Emilianos of Meloa, Walking on the Waves: An Everyday Guide to Nepsis

We owe a big thank you to the Midwest Diocese Missions Committee who helped us with the additional resources we needed to make this purchase. We are so grateful to everyone who has given of their time, talents, and resources to make this happen. Doors will be opening soon. Glory be to God for all things!

“Those who through virtue and spiritual understanding have brought their body into harmony with their soul have become a harp, a flute and a temple of God. They have become a harp by preserving the harmony of the virtues; a flute by receiving the inspiration of the Spirit through divine contemplation; and a temple by becoming a dwelling place of the Word through the purity of their intellect.” - St. Maximos the Confessor

It was so great to have everyone spend time at the new property today. At this rate, we’ll be ready to go before you know it. Thank you to everyone who pitched in. If you can make time in your schedule, there is still plenty of work to do!

There will be lots of people in and out all the time, but you can set aside Saturdays from 9-3 for the time being. Come for 30 minutes or 6 hours, we’d love to have you join us!

It finally happened! Thank you to everyone who donated to this cause. We closed on the new building this past Wednesday. Thank the Lord!

Now the hard work begins. We will be on site every Saturday in September starting at 9 AM if you'd like to come help us get the building ready to host services, or just see the property. God bless you all!

Wonderful news!! St. Nicholas the Wonderworker Orthodox Mission just received the blessing of His Eminence Metropolitan SABA to proceed with the purchase of this church building on Pine Street in Davenport. This will be a huge step for our little mission that started just 15 years ago. As we go through this closing process, many miscellaneous expenses inevitably pop up, ranging from roof repair and electrical work to legal fees and moving expenses. Please pray for us as we navigate these complicated business dealings. And if you are able to give toward this goal, we would sincerely appreciate the help. Thank you! “They who love their neighbor as they ought, do not refuse to be their servant, more humble than any servant. As fire brought into contact with wax easily softens it, so does the warmth of love dissolve all arrogance and presumption more powerfully than fire. Wherefore St. Paul says not, ‘love one another,’ merely, but, ‘be servants one to another,’ thus signifying the intensity of the affection. When the yoke of the Law was was taken off the Galatians, another was laid on them so that they might run off and away: the yoke of Love, stronger than the former, yet far lighter and pleasanter; and, to point out the way to obey it, he adds, ‘For the whole law is fulfilled in one word, even in this: "Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself."’” - St. John Chrysostom in his commentary on Galatians.

“In the atmosphere of the world today, prayer requires superhuman courage. The whole ensemble of natural energies is in opposition. To hold onto prayer without distraction signals victory on every level of existence.” St. Sophrony the Athonite (1896-1993)
