Today we pray for our neighbor community, Muscatine, following yesterday’s domestic dispute which resulted in the loss of 7 lives.
God of the living and of the dead, we come to you with heavy hearts after this display of anger and violence. We place the families who lost loved ones at your feet. We hold up to you the first responders who tried desperately to stop what they could, and had to witness these horrible acts. We also pray for the classmates, coworkers, neighbors and friends.
We praise you for life, Creating God, but we often fall short of working to protect life when it comes to mental health. We ask that you help us do better. Open our eyes, ears, and hearts to finding ways to reach out to those who need help.
We know, Mysterious God, that you can work through all that is horrible and create something new. Help us look for you in this moment, and every moment. Help us listen for your voice.
Meet us in our grief, sorrow and fear. Comfort all who need it. We humbly ask in your Son’s name. Amen.
