Sunday, August 30, 2026, Pastor Josh Matthews, continued Story Thru the Bible #13 - Judges 21:25 - "In those days Israel had no king; everyone did as they saw fit."

In the sermon, legalism vs lawlessness was mentioned. Does the desire for the things on the world overtake your faith in the Real God, which was a recurring struggle for the ancient Hebrews prior to entry into the Promised Land. Through Moses and Joshua they were told to throw out the false gods, to sacririce and serve the True God of Israel.

Pastor Josh concluded with a few comments:

An idol is anything that turns our attention away from God.
When depleted, what do you first turn to in order to be "completed?
What sin do you continue to repeat?

Two chapters, Genesis 19 and Judges 19 are similar as we are told to cry out to God. If God is not our king, we are not different from the world and those who do not know God. People sin because sin "feels better" than serving God.

Pastor Josh Matthews continues his sermon series: Story Through the Bible #12 - Joshua

God made promises to Joshua, the leader of the Hebrews after Moses.
God promised Moses to bring people to the Promised Land.
God promised Joshua to bring the Hebrews into the Promised Land.

With both Moses and Joshua there was no fear: God was with them and they obeyed God's guidance.

We have all been called my God to obey. God‘s leaders, good followers of God, are engaged in strong relationship with God.

Pastor Josh Matthews - August 16, 2026

Joshua was a man under authority, personal assistant to Moses, submissive to earthly authority, but desired God‘s approval. He is convicted, zealous and grows his unshakable faith in the midst of challenges. Ultimately Joshua is commissioned, equipped and encouraged for ministry by God himself.

Do I hunger and thirst for God? Then get close to God. Or do I get close to sin and sinners? That’s my choice.

Time spent with God affects our speech and our walk, revealing a personal relationship with God. Joshua wanted more because of what he saw in Moses. God wants each of us to have a personal relationship with Him.

When we go out and fight battles, know this: The battle will be won by God and increases our faith.

God prepares each of us for the next great thing, in spite of doubts and previous failures. God strengthens hearts and looks for willing servants.

On August 2 Pastor Josh Matthews continued his sermon series through the Bible:
Joseph: A Dream Come True.
When faithful service and God‘s sovereignty collide.

Main text: Genesis 40 through 50

No matter what happens to us, God can use it for His glory, even through those tough times of refinement in the human experience.
Remember this: God cannot forgive unconfessed sin or hidden sin. And we never know when we will be tested as the next great thing unfolds. Through these trials, we first kneel before God before we can stand before leadership. This leads to a new life of grace, wisdom, and understanding.

Joseph was a discerner of dreams, the dreams of the of his fellow inmates, and ultimately the dream of pharaoh. Not just what the dream was, but what to do about the dream.

Through repentance, we join God’s Forever Family. Through a series of events, God extended grace to Joseph’s brothers. Joseph also extended grace and forgave his brothers.

Genesis 50:21: You meant it for evil, but God meant it for good.
Through repentance and forgiveness, Joseph was reunited with his family, which led to a new life and the fulfillment of God’s ultimate plan.

Pastor Josh Matthews continues his sermon series:

Living the Dream: God's Sovereignty in the Life of Joseph.
Text: Genesis 37

God gave direction through dreams to Joseph that took decades to unfold. In spite of dysfunctional family ties, jealousy, extreme conditions and shameful treatment of Joseph, Joseph's faith in God remained and God blessed Joseph in Egypt.

Joseph ultimately served right under Pharoh. God's reputation was established through Joseph's faith.

On June 19, 2026 Pastor Josh Matthews continued his sermon series with "God Bless the Broken Road" as he taught from Genesis 25-35 and Genesis 48.

Jacob, who was the grandson of Abraham and the son of Isaac, grew up as a trickster, was finally deceived himself by his father-in-law who "honored" his daughters who became Jacob's two wives.

However, Jacob could not deceive God Himself and finally acknowledged God as His own Shepherd, no longer taking matters into his own hand. After Jacob wrestled with God, his hip was broken and his name was changed to Israel. He stopped grasping in his own strength and trusted in God's plan.

Jacob discovered that it's all about what God wants to accomplish through us. That was Jacob then. God calls each of us to be the blessing that directs others to God.

Pastor Josh Matthews taught from Genesis 24 on the Blessings of a Faithful Life as Abraham's son Isaac waited for a wife, then waited for offspring, the child of promise, as told to Abraham (his father) by God.

Both Abraham and Isaac trusted God to orchestrate all the details in seeking a bride to fulfill God's Plan and Purpose for God's Chosen people.

Through trust and praise, and the belief that God goes before to fulfill God's plan through His creation, Rebekah was brought from Abraham's homeland to the Promised Land and married Isaac.

Count your blessings! Start with Eternal Life in Heaven because Jesus took the punishment for your sins. Then consider who can you bless and tell others about God's promises. Be a conduit of God's blessings to others.

And leave the details to God!

Listen on Line! Service is every Sunday at 9:30 am. Stay for coffee, cookies and fellowship after the message. Friendly folks want to greet you and welcome you to Conover. Seasonal folks are always welcome.

Pastor Josh Matthews continues his sermon series on the Bible in a Year #7 - July 5, 2026 - Isaac the Second Disciple: The Benchmarks of True Disciple

The son of Abraham and Sarah, Isaac, was the son of Promise, a promise of God made to Abraham and Sarah that they would have a baby boy and name him Isaac.

Abraham believed in faith that through Isaac he would be the father of many nations. In faith Abraham was willing to sacrifice the son of God's promise, Isaac, as a burnt offering, believing that God would restore life to Isaac.

God supplied the sacrifice, a ram, caught in bushes which then became the burnt offering.

Faith requires obedience and builds trust in God's promises as we deny ourselves and become more like Jesus.
