This week Pastor Tim shares his sermon "It’s the Hospitality, Stupid!"

The Prologue
Frankly, this Sunday should be called “Hospitality Sunday". Our lectionary journey begins with Abraham and Sarah as we read about their ongoing story, camped out in a tent, delightfully interrupted by their unnamed but very welcomed visitors turned guests. Hospitality is posited as an event at this point in the Bible, a practice informing a theological mandate, bridging a host of cultural divides. In the Gospel of Matthew, we read the epic story of Jesus sending the twelve disciples on a mission trip, giving clear instructions about what to take on the journey, and more importantly, what to leave behind. Their travels made for a hospitality test in the making, revealing the same expectation reserved for all of us as we continue our faithful journeys!

In today’s service, we reflected on the story of Abraham and Sarah, an enduring reminder that it is never too late to answer a calling. The morning also included this beautiful rendition of "I Sing Alleluia" by our Chancel Choir.

This week Pastor Tim shares his sermon "What to Do with the Subtle Nuance of Scripture!"

The Prologue
Of the many things that can be said about the Bible is the seemingly unlimited places where we discover significant thematic points of interest found within the smallest of texts. In our Witness from the Hebrew Bible, we have one such classic and glaring example! In this lection we read, “At that time the Canaanites were in the land. Then the Lord appeared to Abram and said, ‘to your offspring I will give this land!’” And this part of what we call the Holy Land, this part of the Near or Middle East, has been continuously contested ever since, numerous wars fought with multitudes killed. This text that appears before us today which seems innocent enough, is a reminder of the care and caution that must always be exercised when interpreting any biblical text. Perhaps a warning label should come with the Bible as well as with any other presumed holy text!

Volunteers Needed! 🚜 The grass is growing, and our long-time faithful mower is moving away. It would be a big ask for one person to take on this entire responsibility, but If we can get several folks to commit to mowing our church grounds at least once during the summer, we will not have to hire a landscaper. A walk-behind power mower is kept here at the church, or you can bring your own. We will create a rotating schedule and provide written landscaping instructions. Three kind souls have already volunteered, but the more names we have, the smaller each commitment becomes!

On another note, it would be wonderful to have a riding mower! If you have one that is usable, but you do not need it anymore, our church would be happy to accept your gift. The same goes for a w**d wacker, bush trimmer, or any garden tools in good shape.

It was bittersweet as we celebrated and said goodbye to former Pastors Pat and Dale. Their love, guidance, faithfulness and dedication have meant so much to our church family over the years. While we are excited for this next chapter in their lives, it’s hard to imagine our church without their presence. Thank you to everyone who helped make this day so special, and fare thee well Pat and Dale! ♥️

"All means all!" This Pentecost Sunday was a powerful reminder that God's grace is poured out on everyone, without exception. In celebration, the congregation was a sea of red, the Chancel and Chime Choirs lifted the service in music, and the children decorated the sidewalk with Pentecostal symbols.🌀🔥

This week Pastor Tim shares his sermon "All Means All!"

The Prologue
Pentecost offers the reminder that God is unimaginably powerful. God created the heavens and the earth, the sea and all that is contained within it. Yet we seem to doubt or dismiss, failing to fully believe in the divine power of the Holy when we gather for worship. The writer, Annie Dillard, had this to say about our liturgical practices, “Does anyone have the foggiest idea what sort of power we blithely invoke? Or, as I suspect, does no one believe a word of it? It is madness to wear ladies’ straw hats and velvet hats to church; we should all be wearing crash helmets. Ushers should issue life preservers and signal flares; they should lash us to our pews. For the sleeping god may wake someday and take offense, or the waking god may draw us to where we can never return.”
