Although a student may be able to follow a set of steps to solve a math problem, that student is not really thinking mathematically if he or she does not know the reason for the steps. Conceptual understanding must come before procedural fluency (National Research Council, 2001).

The God Who created mathematics wants us to understand the reasons for both His natural laws (expressed in mathematics) and His moral laws (expressed in the Ten Commandments). Are we following religious procedures, like going to church, dressing a certain way, attending "Bible study" or "Christian" concerts, or celebrating holidays without really understanding why we are doing any of it? Are we conforming to a denominational creed, or a list of requirements and taboos without having a clue as to God's real priorities for our lives? Have we even read His written Word in its entirety? Do we trust His wisdom as we follow His ways, or do we call ourselves Christians while ignoring His ways and following our own ways (expecting success in our lives while we pay Him lip service), not really understanding what service to Him -- a life lived according to His will -- is really all about?

Have a Blessed Resurrection Sunday!

Did you know? Paul says in Ephesians 1:18-20 that the "exceeding greatness" of the Resurrection power that God worked in Jesus Christ when He rose from the dead is the same Resurrection, dynamic, energetic, and creative power that works in us right now. Power to do God's will. Power to obey. Power that works. You don't have to live for God in your own power, because the arm of flesh is short. All the life changing power you will ever need is available to you right now.
