Strong marriages and strong families don’t happen by accident; they’re built through intentional communication, leadership, and daily faithfulness. In this conversation with Ryan Frederick we dig into why communication is often the #1 struggle in marriage, how husbands and wives can create a healthier communication culture at home, and why the way we love our spouse shapes what our kids will one day expect in their own relationships. We also talk about parenting, family identity, and the power of “normalizing” faithfulness in your home.

People will always have ideas about you, whether grounded in reality or not. What goes on in their minds is not your primary concern and should not dictate how you live. Walk faithfully, seeking to please the Lord. Part of that faithful walk means having good friends who walk the faithful path with you. Don’t allow people’s assumptions and expectations to keep you from having true friends in your local church.

Biblical leadership means teaching what God’s Word says and resisting the temptation to control areas where God has not given authority. The moment leaders move beyond Scripture, they step beyond their assignment. A pastor with no Bible has no authority.

Being bold with truth doesn’t mean crushing people. Too often we begin to see people as the enemy instead of remembering they are the mission. The goal isn’t to win arguments or humiliate someone for being wrong. The goal is to lovingly lead people toward truth and ultimately toward Jesus.

The Bible lays out essential attributes that every father needs to teach his sons. Our young men need their fathers to teach them these essential traits for effective living as men, fathers, church leaders, and citizens. The five essential traits are: responsibility, strong Biblical convictions, manly courage, self-control, and selfless affection for others.

Our families, especially our marriages, serve as a litmus test of the effectiveness of our leadership. Get away with your wife for an overnight through the summer. Take time to enjoy dinner out, spend time in prayer, and draw out your wife for ways to improve your leadership at home.

Your past failure does not disqualify you from future faithfulness. Maybe you made decisions you deeply regret. Maybe you failed to lead well in a critical moment. But shame does not have to define the rest of your story. By God’s grace, you can turn around and become the kind of man who leads with courage, humility, and integrity.

What do hurting people really need most? Sometimes they simply need someone to walk alongside them. In this conversation with Shaunti Feldhahn, we unpack the mental health crisis facing our churches, the loneliness epidemic so many are battling, and why the Church is uniquely positioned to bring hope, healing, and care. From personal stories of walking through cancer to practical ways churches can support people in crisis, this episode is full of wisdom for pastors, leaders, and anyone who wants to care for others well.

Is all that’s called “Christian Music” truly Christian? This is a fair and important question for several reasons, but most of all for pastors who feed “Christian music” to their sheep weekly. Singing songs together in worship is a significant part of the church's regular spiritual diet. It behooves us as shepherds to give discerning attention to that diet and test every song by some consistent and sound rubric.

Healthy ministry is never about one person doing everything. A great associate pastor embraces the reality that ministry is a team effort. When leaders truly work together in unity, the church becomes stronger, healthier, and more effective. The goal isn’t building one man’s platform. It’s mobilizing the whole church for the mission of God.
