Some stories stay with you—etched into the soul like a promise.
Nearly two years ago, I stepped into a forgotten community tucked behind the garbage dumps of Ecuador. These families—all of whom survive by sorting through waste—have been outcast and overlooked for generations. But our ministry partners on the ground have been quietly showing up for over a decade—earning trust, offering dignity, and planting seeds of hope. (You’ll see Percy and Gema in the last photo, these two have dedicated their lives to changing the lives of these children.)
In that time, real change has taken root. Children who were once left behind are now learning to read and write. They’re receiving daily meals. Some, who have been abandoned by their parents and have no social safety net to fall back on, are being cared for—body and soul—by the unwavering love of Percy and Gema, and the Church.
As the National Director for Alliance Kids, I’ve had the privilege of helping tell this story. Last year, children in the U.S. rallied with us and helped raise over $12,000 toward our $66,000 goal to build a safe house in this very community—a place where children can learn, grow, and belong. Just yesterday, we delivered school supplies to over 40 of them—each pack a small reminder: you are seen, you are known, you are not forgotten.
Now, I’m asking the story to go wider and deeper. To be heard by more hearts. Because this work is more than a project—it’s a Gospel movement. And these children are worth everything it takes to finish what love began.
This summer in Alliance Kids Missions we are returning to Ecuador and continuing our national giving project. You are invited to join us and be a part of this life-changing work. Coming in May, we will release a free 13 week series of Alliance Kids Missions for you to journey with us in this Gospel movement. Let’s finish strong together.
