The Ohio Buddhist Vihara is traditionally a Sri Lanka Buddhist temple. It is a nonprofit organization

Welcome to Ohio Buddhist Vihara
Our temple serves anyone interested in studying and practicing Buddhism. Using the original doctrines and practices taught by the Buddha 2500 years ago, we follow and practice the oldest version of the Buddha's teaching in the Theravada tradition. The resident monks come from Sri Lanka where the Buddha's Complete Canon was first written down from an oral tradition. The temple doors are open wide to provide for the spiritual, religious and educational needs of men and women of all faiths and of Sri Lankan Buddhists living in the United States of America. The temple serves the diverse spiritual needs of all Buddhists and non-Buddhists, without discrimination and with warmth and spiritual openness

The temple serves as a meditation center with the goals of teaching the techniques and practice of meditation for the purpose of spiritual development.

Annual Katina Ceremony 2025
Due to limited capacity within the temple premises, we ask that you kindly utilize the parking along Shellbark Road once the main lot reaches capacity. A map is provided below for your convenience.

KATHINA CEREMONY 2026 - SPECIAL NOTES
1. Pindapatha. Ten monks will participate in the Pindapatha, walking in with their bowls. It is customary for each dayaka to serve some rice into the bowl of each monk and place a dollar bill on the lid. (Please note that one family member needs to be prepared with 10 One dollar bills)
2.Robs and Atapirikara. Traditionally pirikara is offered to the monks at the end of katina ceremony. Those interested in contributing may make a donation to the temple, to be used for pirikara.
3.KAPRUKA. Any items useful to the monks and the temple may be placed under the KAPRUKA (a decorated tree placed inside the temple).
Suggested Items are:
1. Medicines (Vitamins, First aid supplies)
2. Paper towel rolls, paper plates, small dessert plates, spoons, etc.
3. Detergent pods for laundry and fabric softener.
4.Dish washing / Hand washing liquid.
5. Stamps, envelopes.
