Just as Jesus (In last week’s sermon) was not looking for a portion of the disciple’s life, Paul, in today’s passage, writes of placing our whole life on the altar of God. He calls this sacrifice our reasonable act of worship (NKJ). Yet, giving everything, our whole life, seems unreasonable, not reasonable.

What's next for Northminster? 👀

It's been a year of growth, change, and seeing God at work in ways we couldn't have imagined. And as we look toward the future, there's a lot to be excited about!

In our 2027 State of the Church video, Greg and Mike take us behind the scenes of the past year, share some important updates about the road ahead, and invite us to consider what God might be building through our church in this next season.

There's plenty to celebrate, some big conversations to have, and, knowing Greg and Mike, a few laughs along the way. 😂

The real problem with money isn’t that it’s inherently evil. But just like every other idol in our lives, at a certain point, our affections can shift toward it and away from God.

Slowly, our motivations, our actions, and even our beliefs start to waver and become influenced by something other than Him. We start relying less on the Creator and more on created things. And eventually, we end up in a place where our hearts are no longer hungry and thirsty for God.

And that’s why giving is so important. Every time we give, we’re not only helping to support a ministry, an organization, or a person, but we’re also actively, in faith, freeing ourselves from the bo***ge that money would like to put us in and allowing God to purify our hearts so that we can serve Him better.

One of the things that gets in the way of our quiet time with God is our screen time. We're so heavily influenced by culture that we hardly have anything to stand on when the storms of life come rolling in.

On average, Americans spend 6 to 7 hours on a screen. That's about the same amount of time that we go to work. Where does God fit into all of that?

Make a concious effort this week to decrease your screen time. But don't do it because you want to pat yourself on the back or feel better about yourself. Do it to make intentional room for your Creator and to tend to your soul. Let Him work on you and make you into something even more beautiful in His presence.

If we want to truly understand God's intention and purpose for our lives, we have to consult the blueprint. And when we genuinely consult the blueprint He laid out for us, it should change us completely. 🪚

Following Jesus means giving up some of our ability to say, “I’ll become whoever I want to become.” And if we’re being real, that can feel uncomfortable. We like having options. We like changing the plan. We like being the ones holding the blueprint.

But surrender isn’t only about what we give up. It’s also about what becomes possible when we trust the One who sees the finished picture. God isn’t trying to squeeze us into a smaller life. He’s forming us into people we could never become on our own.

There’s humility in saying, “God, Your plans over mine.” But there’s also incredible hope in it. Because the Builder knows what He’s doing and there’s something beautiful on the other side of letting Him lead.
