The Church was birthed by a most supernatural experience of wind, and vision, and fire. The Spirit of God came upon Jesus’ first apprentices and that Spirit has been passed on to each generation of apprentices in the form supernatural gifts or graces.

The early Church was highly persecuted. It was made up of neither the most skilled nor the most educated people. Those people were killed off or imprisoned. So the Letter to the Church in Ephesis tells us that the Church wasn’t structured or founded upon educated, elite professionals, but instead upon five foundational gifts of the Holy Spirit. What was not naturally possible was made possible supernaturally by the power of the Holy Spirit which allowed the Church to carry out its mission and purpose. A gathering of persecuted nobodies being supernaturally transformed into the likeness of their teacher doing impossible things against fierce opposition from the most powerful people and institutions in the world…yeah how did THAT happen?

And, how does that all work at Immanuel now? How do we embrace and live into the power of these gifts to do what Jesus is calling this community to do in this generation? That’s what we’re talking about today as we move deeper into our series on the Spiritual Gifts. Worship at 10:30!
