Believe, Behave, Belong
What does it mean to become a Christian?
First you have to believe who Jesus is. We have the Declaration of Faith to help us with!
Today, Behave:
Behavior, have you met someone who has followed Jesus for years but they are mean, they lie, they gossip?
This is not how we should behave. If we follow Jesus, we should stand out in the crowd. Jesus is King, Jesus is the boss. He is in charge of us, it is a fact, it is not just a thought. This fact changes us, how we think, how we act.
How do we know if we are letting Jesus be our boss?
It is not how loud we sing on Sundays.
It is not how excited we look in church.
How we act in our worship comes from our background, Pentecostals are a little more excited.
Rather we are loud or quiet could be a cover for what is going on in the inside.
The true test on who is running your life, is are you obeying what Jesus has to say?

We do not get to live how we want, we have to live His way.
The bible tells us in multiple scriptures on how to behave.
*Titus 2 it teaches us to say no to bad things.
Romans 12:9-21

*Hebrews 13
*Colossians 3:1-14 will be our study. The other verses back this up.
Keep studying and you will find more scriptures backing on how we are to behave.

Are you obeying Christ?
Before we came to Jesus we have once walked in sin.
Do not do these things. Lying, we have to still tell adults not to lie to one another.
God tell us to put on tender mercy, kindness, humility, meekness, longseuffering, forgiving one another. If you have a complaint with the one next to you, or in church or outside of church, GO TO THEM and make it right.
Put on LOVE!
If we do something, and you get upset TALK to us, give us a chance to say I am sorry.
Verses 1-4: Living the Risen Life
We can call it this, Paul tells us, we are raised in Christ.
This is 2,000 years ago.
Some people are smooth talking, here the teachers smooth talked their way in to mess with the young christians.
Pauls stops them and tells them DO NOT LISTEN TO THEM!
Because you have Jesus you are complete, Jesus paid it all on the cross.
We see bad teaching and bad behavior here in the scripture. Once these two are mixed, people beging to get sloppy in their work.
Paul ask Why are you letting people boss you around?
Even in today's church, some people have rules for their church where you have to wear this or that, ate this or that, these are outward rules.
These have nothing to do with God. If you feel covicted to do those things then that is fine, you do not have to do these things. Paul tells us more in Chapter 2.
Having these outward things, they will not fix your sin. Your own thoughts are enough to sink you. You still have to wake up every morning with yourself.
How do we change our bad behavior?
It is to understand who you are in Jesus. It is not completing a list of rules. It is a fact you are now connected with Christ.
You are now a completely changed person. Use your body to honor Christ.
We need to stay connected with Jesus.
God made us new, with a new heart. It was made to obey him.
We are followers of Jesus, God saved you and a miracle happend!
Sins are wiped away, you are adopted into his family, he made you new on the inside, he gave you a new address. Set your heart on the things above. Focus on Heaven.
You belong to the Kingdom above.
The connections we have with Jesus, it is a Heavenly thing. No one will be able to know from just your outer apperance. (by just looking at you). Hopefully they will see a change and wonder what happened to you. This is your chance to witness to them.
Paul tells us, we are completely wrapped up in Jesus.
"I am completely wrapped up in Jesus".
*1 Corinthans 6
Are you going to be so wrapped up in Jesus and take him into the worldly sin? No, we wll remained wrapped up in Jesus and avoid sin. We are not perfect, when we mess up, ask God to forgive us. Pray to stay wrapped up in Jesus to avoid sin.
True Faith keeps us connected in Christ. When we mess up, we have to repent.
Jesus died on the cross to present you Holy.
Gods goal is to make you look like his son.
Our eyes need to be locked on and fixed on Jesus, waiting for God to tell us where to go, what to do.
Jesus is your life! If you take away football, the garden, the phone, money. As soon as you take these things away, these people are lost. When your spouse passes away, people think their life is over. This is why your life should be focused on Christ. Jesus is my life.
Col. Verses 5:11
When you know someone important is coming, you do not sit around, you clean, you prep. Jesus is coming back and you need to be prepped and ready.
verse 3, you died verse 5, now put to death. This is confusing. In Jesus you died to the control of sin, it is no longer the boss of you. Your sin is forgiven. You have to fight to overcoming temptation. It is no longer in your life but it remains in this world. We need the Holy Spirit to guide us and to over come temptation.
We have to fight sin daily. We need prayed up.
We still live in this world, we are not in Heaven. We need to meet His expectations not the worlds view.
We operate by the word of God, not how the world wants us to.
Sin, if you do not catch it when it first comes to your mind, it will go deep. If you continue to sin, it will have a destiny in your life.
Col. Verses 12-14
Put on the robe Paul is talking about. You want people to know your christian these are the things you must do.
Verse 13, bear with one another, forgiving one another, just as Christ forgave you. We are not perfect but God is. If we do not do this, we will not grow. When Jesus bore the cross, he took it all.
It is hard to forgive. It is hard, but we have to.
When I refuse to forgive you, it is because I have blown the mistake out of proportion. My sin on not forgiving you is just as big as the sin you commited.
Jesus commands us to love and forgive one another as Christ forgave you.
