CELEBRATING ADVENT AS A FAMILY!
The Christmas season can be such a busy time of year for families. There are family gatherings to attend, gifts to buy, celebrations to have and if we aren’t careful, we can lose sight of the true meaning. I want to encourage every family in Wild & Free to set some time aside this advent season to reflect as a family. Whether its doing a devotional together, spending time every day talking and reflecting on the season, or doing a fun Christmas craft, taking the time to spend together this season can help turn our families hearts and minds back to the One who we celebrate. We know that with so many options of resources, it can be difficult to find what is right for your family. We have given a few options for resources we like below, but whatever one you choose, just choose to set aside time, as a family, to celebrate Jesus this season!
Read through the book of Luke as a family. Luke has 24 chapters so it can be read through by reading a chapter a day from December 1-24th. Maybe you re-read the Christmas story on Christmas to tie it all together!
Jesus Storybook Bible Advent Devotional. If you love the Jesus Storybook Bible, you’ll love this devotional to go alongside the Advent season. This is great for younger kids! Bible can be bought here: https://www.amazon.com/Jesus-Storybook.../dp/0310708257. Devotional can be downloaded for free here: https://pages.faithgateway.com/jesus-storybook-bible.../.
Let There Be Light Family Devotional by Truth + Light Co. This is a great resource for families who need a shorter devotional with wonder questions. Also has a guide to candle lighting for all the days of advent with a craft to create your own family wreath! This can be purchased here: https://www.amazon.com/Let-There-Light.../dp/B0FXHQP1MZ.
Family Advent Devotional: Celebrating Christ Together by Matt & Lauren Chandler. This is a great resource for families of both kids and teens/young adults. It gives discussion questions aimed at both age groups. It also includes videos on each of the four main topics: Hope, Peace, Love, and Joy. This resource can be purchased here: https://tinyurl.com/ye3wztr3.
Unwrapping the Greatest Gift and The Wonder of the Greatest Gift by Ann Voskamp. These two resources who complement each other are both great, fully comprehensive advent options for your family. This story doesn’t just start in a manger in Bethlehem, but at the beginning of creation, showing us that Jesus has been there through every part of the story!
