I have been fielding questions about the situation on the ground in Haiti, so some of you may wish to read this.
There is currently a new multinational armed forces mission (replacing the Kenyans) operating in Haiti sanctioned and supported by the United Nations and called the “Gang Suppression Force (GSF).”
It is currently made up of about 1,000 personnel, with plans to reach 5,500 troops by fall, and includes troops from Chad, Jamaica, El Salvador, and Guatemala, with Bangladesh and the Ivory Coast preparing to contribute. Mongolian Army Major General Erdenebat Batsuuri is in command.
Troops in the area of our House of Faith Orphanage (the Port au Prince area) are from Chad.
Unlike the previous mission led by Kenyans, this GSF holds broader authority to conduct direct offensive operations against armed gangs in tandem with the Haitian National Police and Armed Forces.
To my knowledge, no forces from the United States are involved, but the United States has pledged $200 million in direct support to the GSF troops, and another $100 million in humanitarian aid. Please help us pray that these funds will be well protected from misdirection within Haiti.
