“Don't believe something simply because I say it.”

That may sound like a strange thing for a pastor to say. But it's important.

We live surrounded by voices telling us what is true, and sometimes those voices even claim to speak for God.

Deuteronomy 18 shows us that God's people were never expected to blindly accept everyone who claimed spiritual authority. They were expected to discern.

The same is true for us.

Open your Bible. Test what you hear against what God has actually said.

But remember: discernment isn't an excuse to reject something we don't like. We discern what is false so that we can faithfully receive what is true.
