Active versus passive. Time to take action!

Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing psalms. Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.
James 5:13-16✝️

Sometimes I think God really needed to hit me over the head to see that He was real and so was having a relationship with Him. When I finally caved in to Christ it wasn't a nice glowing experience. I had to be purged of all the garbage of my past to move on and at first it was terribly painful to go back and confront things. Finally, the repentant joy broke through and it started an incredible journey. It seems whenever my faith has waned, God has showed up with something to reveal Himself as Who He says He is. I was in the midst of what i would call a dry spell with the Lord. I was supposed to preach one Sunday morning ,but when i woke up i was violently ill and in so much pain I could hardly walk. Yep, it was a kidney stone. Straight to the Hospital I went. I wrestled with God on why He would allow it etc. and no clear answer came. The stone became lodged between my kidney and bladder in that little tube and all we could do was wait. Nothing... Surgery was set for a Monday after two weeks of pain and a distancing from God. Sunday service came and at the end the Pastor called for anyone suffering to come up to be prayed over. I came up to pray for others, but the table was turned when someone said "Brad's got a kidney stone let's pray over him." As hands were laid on me one gentleman laid his hands on me, he had just been prayed over for lymphoma. I could feel the heat from his hands and then said "God we ask you remove this stone from Brad." It really didn't feel any different the pain was still there. The next morning I went in for the surgery. Afterward the Dr. came in and asked me "where is the stone?" Still being under the effects of the drugs I said Isn't that your job? He said well, it's not there. I believed it was too big to pass it, but did you? I said I think I would have noticed it if it did, if it was that big. Then it dawned on me, maybe God had answered that man's fervent prayer. Maybe it was gone by faith. Maybe this whole thing was all a setup for God to be glorified. So I turned to the Doctor and said I'm not sure what you believe, but I was prayed over at church and one man asked that it be removed. I think it worked. He turned to me and said in a loud voice "I'm a Christian too! I can't wait to tell my church about this! I can even see the scar and we had to insert a stent so it would heal right. The fervent prayer had availed much. The stone was gone, the Doctor had a new testimony to share and the man who prayed over me came back to church the next week to show me the results of his scans and they were completely clear and he said his Doctor was left speechless. I will always believe this passage and pray that healing services make a huge comeback and many are healed in body and spirit. Dr. Jesus is still in the miracle business.

We can all do it!

“The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon Me, Because the Lord has anointed Me To preach good tidings to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives, And the opening of the prison to those who are bound; To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, And the day of vengeance of our God; To comfort all who mourn, To console those who mourn in Zion, To give them beauty for ashes, The oil of joy for mourning, The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; That they may be called trees of righteousness, The planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified.”
Isaiah 61:1-3✝️

This list of the duties and attributes of the Lord are so comforting to me and also a bit convicting. To know that Jesus will do these things for any of us just shows His love for us in such deep ways. He preached to me when I was poor. He gave me more faith than money and that was what I needed most. He healed me when my heart was broken from loss of many lives who were so important to me by giving me glimpses of Heaven with those I had lost in it. He gave me liberty and freedom when I found myself captive to drugs and alcohol. I was inmate of a self made prison. I had never intended to be there, but Jesus knew and He was holding the key to the door of my cell. He proclaimed the acceptable year for me and that was 2001. The year I fell to my knees because I knew I couldn't go on without radical change and He provided that change. That was His day of vengeance in my life He broke the chains that the devil had so cleverly slipped on to me and kicked his butt out of my life, even though he tries to sneak back in once in a while. He gave me beauty for ashes as veil of darkness was lifted from my eyes. He gave me the oil of true joy that I felt deep in my heart. He gave me the garment of praise to replace the layers of sin, regret and unforgiveness I carried like an old smelly 500 pound coat. I praise Him for all He has done and continues to do in my life. So the question now is, shouldn't I try to be like Jesus and do the same for others so they may feel these same things? This is the convicting part. When you accept Jesus the Spirit of the Lord anoints us too. This isn't just a list of Christ's attributes, it's a list of ours also and things we should be working on. He set you free for a reason. Not for our personal enjoyment, but to help set others free. It's as easy as speaking to a friend or anyone and letting them know there's a better way to live and you found it. He was always there, but you finally reached for the door handle and opened the door for Jesus to come in and they can do the same. As Jesus came down to live for others we must rise up to live for others also.
God Bless & Happy Tuesday!

The "Big three.

Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world. And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever. Little children, it is the last hour; and as you have heard that the Antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come, by which we know that it is the last hour.
1 John 2:15-18✝️

I love this passage. I don't really do well without a few ground rules. I need a simple framework to go by and this pretty much fits the bill. When we look at any sin, we can pretty much drop it in one of these three categories. The cool thing to me is you can also take this breakdown back to the forbidden fruit in Genesis 3. The fruit was "good for food", lust of the flesh. It was "pleasant to the eye", lust of the eyes and "desirable to make one wise", pride of life. Nothing has changed! We are still in this same battle we have been in, since the beginning of time. The great thing is, we can see the strategies of the devil more clearly by running our choices up against this simple list in 1 John. I also believe John's going right into verse 18 and his writing on the antichrist applies today more than ever. We are not hearing about these three categories of Holy mistakes, instead, today we are being taught that they're okay and I believe that's the true spirit of the antichrist. We now live in a world that is dominated by the "big" three. Every where you turn there's something about food going on. We've made food an idol. Beauty is next up. Whether it's a car, a woman or even a dog, it has to have a certain look of beauty to catch our eye. Sadly it has become one of the hardest things to live up to for young women and the results are devastating. The pride of life is an easy one. Especially when we look at social media. I'm sorry , but we all can't be right, somebody has to be wrong. This has caused anger to rear it's ugly head everywhere. It goes back to the saying "we don't listen to learn anymore, we listen to respond. A million opinions of a matter don't make that opinion any more right. Be kind out there. Look for beautiful hearts instead of glittering gold. Don't treat some famous chef as a shepherd in your life and gain wisdom the old fashioned way, knowledge , experience and application. Not at a keyboard. No short cuts. let your wisdom grow through taking in, instead of dishing out. John gave us this list to give us a better world, not just a better life.

God Bless & Happy Monday!

God's Call, Don't Let It Go To Voicemail

We need rest.

Have you not known? Have you not heard? The everlasting God, the Lord, The Creator of the ends of the earth, Neither faints nor is weary. His understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the weak, And to those who have no might He increases strength. Even the youths shall faint and be weary, And the young men shall utterly fall, But those who wait on the Lord Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint.
Isaiah 40:28-31✝️

Weakness comes in a lot of different forms. Physical weakness is pretty easy to spot and feel. It usually can come out of tiredness. Mental weakness also usually comes out of fatigue. Emotional weakness usually is tied to a lack of rest or some other lack in our lives. Spiritual weakness can also come from not taking the time to rest in the Lord. There is nothing worse in this world than being drained and finding yourself so weak you don't feel you can ever get up again, but this is what daily life can do to you without resting in God. For me I always felt weak under the hand of an incredibly strong Dad. I was relentlessly trying to please him, but could never reach the mark. At a very young age weakness set in. I tried drugs and alcohol primarily, but I tried just about everything to strengthen myself. All it did was weaken me. I turned to everything and everyone, except what would have truly helped, resting in Jesus. I understand why works based religions don't satisfy. You can never do enough and it drives people to weakened state. Our strength comes by way of grace through faith as Paul says over and over in his letters. I don't believe God wants us to work for Him, but rest in Him to give us strength to do His work. It's hard to do in these days of busyness and our nonstop lives, but it truly must be dealt with before we find ourselves in a weakened state with little or no hope. I don't know about you, but I don't want to faint or be weary, I want to mount up with wings like eagles, now I know it's going to take a little rest.

God Bless & Happy Wednesday!

A sign of the times...

Then I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, “Now salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren, who accused them before our God day and night, has been cast down. And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death. Therefore rejoice, O heavens, and you who dwell in them! Woe to the inhabitants of the earth and the sea! For the devil has come down to you, having great wrath, because he knows that he has a short time.”
Revelation 12:10-12✝️

My life was a mess for a long time and mostly because of choices or lack of choices I made. Today my life is so peaceful by comparison. When I lived in the world chaos was the norm. Day in day out, nonstop. When i came to Jesus life was pretty idyllic, but I didn't realize I had a huge target on my back. I thought everything was behind me and I was covered with "Holy Kevlar". I was pretty naive on how the devil worked his schemes and why they called him the "deceiver". So after two years of feeling bulletproof I got a little cocky and proceeded to fall right off the path. This passage is written to us as believers and not to an unbelieveing world. I don't believe the devil's "great wrath" is the chaos in the world, it's always been there in cycles over all of time. To me his "great wrath" is our perception of the chaos and how it distracts us and manipulates our faith in Christ and His ongoing plan and promise for us. If we look past the obvious things that are going on and really look at how things are impacting us, we will have a greater insight in this life on where our strength truly comes from and how to guard against these times. We'll angle our prayers a little differently, read scripture a little more deeply, be a little more on guard when we are hit with things. I truly believe his "great wrath" is packaged up in trying to make us useless to the loving God we serve. There is no better Christian to the devil than one who doesn't move and just believes to feel better about themselves with no benefit to others. Today we are watching what's going on in the world and doing that, just watching and the devil is smiling. His deceptions are growing exponentially right now and now more than ever it's God's love, peace, compassion and truth is what I, myself and all should stand on. Walk carefully and mindfully, but not quietly.

God Bless & Happy Tuesday!

Make sure you look in the right place.

Then Jesus cried out and said, “He who believes in Me, believes not in Me but in Him who sent Me. And he who sees Me sees Him who sent Me. I have come as a light into the world, that whoever believes in Me should not abide in darkness. And if anyone hears My words and does not believe, I do not judge him; for I did not come to judge the world but to save the world. He who rejects Me, and does not receive My words, has that which judges him—the word that I have spoken will judge him in the last day.
John 12:44-48✝️

So many things have our attention these days. We are bombarded with information and news about this and that. We worry about things we hear and what is placed before us and called news. The stress is incredible on the youth today because of social media. Pressure to conform to things that make us uncomfortable. We are all running on overload. A while back politics was dividing people and I heard so many times "I'm deleting my account, I can't take it anymore." One day when one particular friend, a fairly strong believer posted these very words, one in particular stood out. The word was "take". I realized, myself like many others had become "takers'. We were no longer givers, read and took in all the nonsense and vitriol, while not giving anything to counter it. One thing we have to realize in the world of give and take is that a lot we take in isn't meant for us. We shouldn't treat news stories and social media the same as someone who is not walking with Jesus. When we take things in we really need to hold them up to the light of Christ so see if we should allow them to impact us. Proverbs 4:23 states, "Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it." We need to be cautious what we allow to impact our lives. The Holy Spirit is the greatest filter ever. I played hockey and was goalie as a kid. Defense was everything to me. A great professional player named Bob Carse, who was our coach told me "you need great defense because if the other team doesn't score, the least you will do is tie 0-0". We need to have great defense because we've already scored Heaven. I don't believe God wants us to live in a world burdened by worldly problems. I believe He wants us to live for Him and sharing hope with those caught up in it. Us as "givers" need to be a source of encouragement and hope for the takers in this world. We can free the captives in this world in our own way with the love and compassion of Christ and "giver" mindset. When you share joy, your own will explode.

God Bless & Happy Monday!
