Lunch and Learn: Dharma and Ecological Justice
Thursday, March 19, Noon, Brooks Commons, Cannon Chapel
This collaborative event will explore the intersections of Dharmic faith traditions, the living environment, and the law. Drawing on Hindu, Jain, and Buddhist concepts of non-dualism, nonviolence, and the living world, the event will bring them into conversation with legal perspectives on interest convergence, rights, and personhood. Featuring scholars of both religion and law, both visiting and from Emory, the event will highlight distinct ethical frameworks within each tradition and apply them to the contemporary discourse on environmental justice, animal welfare, and sustainability.
Panelists include:
Dr. Bonnie Nadzam, Associate Director of Ethics, Culture and Religion at Harvard Animal Law and Policy Program, Harvard Law School
Dr. Dhruv Nagar, Bhagawan Arnath Postdoctoral Fellow in Jain Studies, Candler School of Theology, Emory University
Dr. Anatanand Rambachan, Professor Emeritus of Religion, St. Olaf College
Dr. Ani B. Satz, Founding Director of the Health Law, Policy and Ethics Project, Emory Law School
