Two and a half year walking pilgrimage: from 1977 - 1979, two of the very first American-born Buddhist monks, Venerable Heng Sure (Christopher Clowery) and Ven. Heng Chau (Martin Verhoeven) completed a 2.5 year walk of three steps, one bow (fully touching hands and head to the earth) up the California coast. This inner walk for peace was done without social media or crowds, with Ven. Heng Sure keeping silence for the two and half years, and led to remarkable spiritual growth and discovery of one's true Buddha-nature.

We were honored to have Ven. Heng Sure as one of the monks at our first Georgia Buddhist Summer Camp and he still teaches multiple times a week (find them on Youtube channel Dharma Realm Live https://www.youtube.com/ ) , while Dr. Martin Verhoeven is now dean of Dharma Realm Buddhist University in California.
Their chronicles are available online here https://www.cttbusa.org/bowing_pilgrimage/contents.asp.html as well as in printed 8-book journal, and explored here: https://youtu.be/TxLGOAXoE84?si=0YWAti1l0f_BXgyM
