Pure Land recitation in English online with Ven. Heng Sure, one of the most senior American Buddhist monks and teacher at our very first Georgia Buddhist Summer Camp. Weekly at 10:30pm Eastern!

Heng Sure, PhD.

Starting this Thursday, August 6, Rev. Heng Sure is leading a weekly online Pure Land practice — fifteen minutes of reciting the name of Amitabha Buddha together, in English, with English devotional songs.

Background for starting this group practice: Master Hua taught recitation of the Buddha's name as much as he taught Chan meditation. The Pure Land method brings Amitabha's vows forward and asks three things of us: to believe them, to resolve to follow the Buddha to his Pure Land, and then to recite his name and let those vows work through us. The third step has traditionally been carried in a Chinese cultural form — beautiful and deeply meaningful for those raised in it, but not always easy to enter for Westerners or for modern-minded Asian practitioners who didn't grow up with it. This group is an attempt to open that door in English.

When: Thursdays, 7:30 pm Pacific — starting August 6
