STARTING A NONPROFIT
SPRING 2020
T-TH 4:00 - 5:15 P.M.

Do you have a desire, a mission, or just want to know what it takes to form a nonprofit organization? This class is for you! Starting a nonprofit organization is an exciting and rewarding opportunity, no matter your interest …Sociology, Psychology, Business, etc, this class applies. Careers in Nonprofit organizations work to improve the common good of society typically through charitable, educational, scientific or religious means. U.S. nonprofits employed the third largest workforce of any U.S. industry in 2016, behind only retail trade and accommodations and the foodservice industry. Nonprofit employment has edged out the manufacturing industry, (2019).

Forming a nonprofit is not difficult but there are a lot of steps to getting it right: incorporation, IRS determination, an initial set of bylaws, board development and officers, state charity registrations, tax-exempt certificates, separation of profit/nonprofit identities within the same “organization”, etc. There are some common procedures (federal) and then different state requirements which will be explored. Furthermore, understanding that you may find yourself working for a nonprofit this class gives you the knowledge needed to thrive in a mission-driven organization.

REGISTRATION BEGINS NOVEMBER 4, 2019
