According to Unicef, that's how many of the children who are not in school, are in Nigeria. The Anglican Diocese of Osun and Bishop Babatunji are addressing this gap in their partnership with ARDF.

The Diocese currently runs two fully operational schools, both of which are popular choices, as the schools have a solid infrastructure and provide quality education. They are now in the process of building a third school!

The school's primary beneficiary passed away, which means Mariam Joseph Memorial Anglican School is technically operational, currently enrolling 55 students, but it has unfinished structures which would increase the potential to enroll up to500 students! ARDF is partnering with them to finish the school.

The Bishop is especially excited about the chance to love and reach out to their Muslim neighbors, and the church is eager to help.

In Malawi, more than 60% of students do not make the transition from primary school to secondary school. The Anglican Diocese of Lake Malawi has partnered with ARDF and the Yissah Foundation Secondary School to build a secondary school, so that students in the area will not have to walk 9 miles to the closest day school. In January, we shared the exciting news that the walls had gone up for the classrooms. This month, we are excited to share that construction surges forward as the Diocese places the roof!

Burundi, a small landlocked country, with a population of 13.0 million and size smaller than the US State of Maryland, is also one of the poorest countries globally. Over half of the population has not reached adolescence. Despite the economic, political, and medical hardships that Burundians face, the Diocese of Matana has been actively growing! This growing ministry hassled to a need for steady income. In partnership with ARDF, the Diocese of Matana is building a 20 room guesthouse and expanding the nearby primary school by two classrooms!

Last month in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and in neighboring Uganda, an Ebola outbreak began to spread.

ARDF has partners and projects in critical places, which means we have the channels already established to hear what’s happening on the ground and to quickly and meaningfully respond.

Our partners, will train congregations and communities to recognize and respond to symptoms, to address prevention measures, and organize community dialogues. ARDF’s funding will also support the distribution of hygiene supplies, handwashing stations, and other protective supplies in public gathering spaces such as churches or schools.

While many are responding to the clinical request for help, ARDF and its partners are addressing the ground level concerns and prioritizing prevention measures in stopping this outbreak.

This week we are uplifting the Diocese of Goma! We recently shared a quote from the district chief, talking about the hope that the diocese is bringing with this project.

By relocating and expanding two flagship Anglican schools–one primary and one secondary–to the underserved Ndosha neighborhood in the capital city of Goma, the Diocese is ensuring access to education to many.

If they have the opportunity to attend school, many do not because they are exposed to a heightened risk of recruitment for armed groups, early marriage, and child labor, which perpetuate long-term poverty. By moving these schools into the densely populated Ndosha neighborhood, the Anglican Church is intervening early in the lives of these children, creating a safe environment for them to learn the love of Christ and build lasting character.

This brings us hope too!
