Beth Samuel is horrified to learn of the attack on Temple Israel, West Bloomfield, MI today. We are thankful no innocents were injured inside the synagogue, but our prayers are with this community as they recover from this violence. At Beth Samuel, security is a priority, even as we refuse to mute our joy during services, holidays, and celebrations. Violence is never acceptable political speech, and we pray for compassion, community, and tolerance moving forward.

27 January marks the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau and International Holocaust Remembrance Day.

Today we remember the victims, listen to survivors, and commit to confronting antisemitism, racism, and hate in ALL forms.

Memory matters. Truth matters. ALL humanity matters.

Our thoughts and support go out to Beth Israel Congregation in Jackson, MI. Beth Israel has existed for ~150 years, serving as the hub of Jewish life in Jackson. Just a few weeks after joyous Chanukah celebrations, they were the victim of arson for the second time in their history (they were also victimized during the Civil Rights era for serving as a focal point for organizing efforts). Just days after this horrible event, they are already making plans to rebuild. We are stronger together.

Shout out to Kellogg's, who donated 19,000 pounds of cereal to the JFCS Squirrel Hill Food Pantry! That supply will only last a couple weeks, given the level of food insecurity in this region.

Beth Samuel has a year-round food collection. Whenever we get a carload, off it goes to the The Center for Hope Faith Center food pantry. Also, two upcoming b'nai mitzvahs are collecting DIAPERS and (boxes or individually wrapped) MENSTRUAL SUPPLIES for their Mitzvah projects. We are collecting them at the synagogue!

At the conclusion of a fellowship exploring peace, Ender Lin, 13, asked for 'some cereal.' What arrived is 'pretty amazing'

Thanks to everyone who helped make 105 lasagnas on Sunday, and load them all into the fridge and freezer. Then, Saul & I loaded them into our cars today to take them to the The Center For Hope Ambridge Pa. If you think my face looks a little red, that's because loading and unloading 105 full pans of lasagna is a lot of work! Hope everyone who gets one really enjoys their cheesy lasagnas!
