First Holy Communion Class at Divine Redeemer Church in Ambridge with Father Paul Yurko and their teacher, Sister M. Bernadette. (1977)
(Updated names)The Communicants from left to right: Robert Benkowski, Paul Chupka, Diane Jurasko, Michelle Ramsey, and Donald Boros.

Fun fact: According to a former Divine Redeemer parishioner, it was tradition that the children made their first Holy Communion in the 3rd grade on Ascension Thursday. Father John Rostas said he picked Ascension Thursday because the children would remember that they made their First Communion on a special day rather than just a Sunday. That was in 1958. If you made your First Holy Communion on a special day other than Sunday, please comment.

May Crowning at St. Stanislaus Church in Ambridge with Father Labujewski, pastor and Father Zygmunt Szarnicki, assistant pastor. Fr. Szarnicki served at St. Stans from 1948-1951, which helps to date this picture from that period. Anyone recognize the May Queen or her attendants?

Fun facts: Father Zygmunt Szarnicki was a gifted violinist who performed in local concerts.
During his short stay at St. Stanislaus Church, he baptized David Zubik in 1950, who later became the Bishop of Pittsburgh.

Image of St. Veronica in the 1961 Crusader Yearbook

Did you know that St. Veronica Church was named after the 17th century Capuchin Poor Clare, Veronica Giuliani as its primary patron? Thus, the pious woman associated with wiping the face of Christ as he walked the road to Calvary was the second patron.

Apparently, the church chose the image of St. Veronica that wiped the face of Jesus instead of St. Veronica Giuliani, who would have been portrayed holding a crucifix and a crown of thorns upon her head.

St. Veronica was the first Catholic Church in Ambridge and was dedicated on October 28, 1906.
