🌟 Aging: Better than the Alternative 🌟
Are you ready to change how you think about growing older? Join us for the very first event in our brand-new community exploration series, led by Rev. Sam Stebbins!
In a youth-obsessed culture, we are often told to resist the natural passage of time. But what if we shifted our perspective to embrace curiosity, honesty, and grace instead?
📅 When: November 10 | 12:00 PM – 1:30 PM
📍 Where: Fellowship Hall
Together, we'll unpack themes of independence, mutual mentoring, and letting go of the resistance that causes us suffering. Come experience a safe, brave space rooted in deep respect and open dialogue (with zero fixing, saving, or advising!).
Whether you join us for this opening session or the whole series ahead, your voice is welcome. Bring a notebook, your curiosity, and get ready to close with a good laugh!
👉 Drop-ins are welcome, but pre-registration helps us prep materials. See you there!

Stay in the Room & in the Streets

A Special Sunday Sermon & Interactive Workshop with Nicole Bruno

Social justice asks more of us than simply holding the right values—it calls us to commit to and practice them daily. How do we stay present when living those values becomes difficult, uncomfortable, or scary?

Join Mount Vernon Unitarian Church for an inspiring morning with Nicole Bruno as she explores the body as a site of courage, relationship, and liberation—and guides us in building communities capable of confronting injustice without falling into avoidance or division.

About Our Guest Speaker

Nicole Bruno is a q***r activist, seminarian, and board member at Starr King School for the Ministry, where she is pursuing dual master’s degrees in Divinity and Social Change in preparation for Unitarian Universalist ministry. A published author and juried artist, Nicole works at the intersections of identity, justice, and faith to reimagine a more liberatory future. Passionate about collective healing and transformative community, she balances her work with a healthy dose of hopeful skepticism. Nicole lives in Brandywine, Maryland, with her husband, daughter, community choir music, and—depending on who you ask—just enough cats.

All are welcome! Bring an open mind and a heart ready for connection.

We had the absolute joy of spending time with members of our community at the Greenspring Retirement Community. In Unitarian Universalism, we hold deep reverence for the inherent worth and dignity of every person—and our elders carry a wealth of wisdom, story, and history that enriches us all.

Building bridges across generations reminds us that faith isn't just something we practice on Sunday mornings; it’s found in every shared moment, smile, and slice of celebration cake. Thank you to everyone at Greenspring for such a warm welcome! 💛

✨ What does it truly mean to make a promise to one another? ✨

Unlike religious traditions defined by shared creeds, Unitarian Universalism is built on covenant—the intentional promises we make about how we choose to walk together, support each other, and heal when relationships fracture.

Join us this Sunday, October 11 at Mount Vernon Unitarian Church for a special morning dedicated to exploring the heart of our shared faith!

🗓️ SUNDAY SCHEDULE

Location: Hollin Hall
Stay after the service for an informal, interactive conversation exploring the history, theology, and real-world practice of covenant at MVUC.
