The inspiration for this post came from a Proverbs 31 Devotional that I read.
The devotional discussed by Meghan Mellinger discussed the idea the about breaking the cycles of burnout. The author discussed how we can get caught up in “a cycle of frustration” We try our hardest in class, study very hard and do homework after classes, and some of us even drag ourselves to part tine jobs or extracurricular activities. At the end of the day we crawl into bed exhausted and burned out from the constant cycle of classes, homework, and other activities.
The Bible offers us freedom for our ‘cycle of frustrations’
In Mark 1:9-11 (NLT)
One day Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee, and John baptized him in the Jordan River. As Jesus came up out if the water, he saw the heavens splitting apart and the Holy Spirit descending on him like a dove. And a voice from heaven said ‘You are my dearly loved Son, and you bring me great joy.’
Although the passage isn’t directly about burnout, it is encouraging. Jesus’ ministry on earth had not officially begun yet and he didn’t have an impressive resume of miracles. However, God chose to publicly declare his love for Jesus because of who He is not because of what he would do.
God shows us that we don’t have to have an impressive resume or a theological degree to be worthy of his love.(If you do have one or are pursuing one, good for you!)
We can choose to live free from the hamster wheel of life and live freely in God’s love and grace.
