Salamualikum wa Rahmatullah,

Alhamdulillah, today Masjid As-Salam was honored to host the Honorable Mayor of the City of Albany, Dr. Dorcey Applyrs, together with our neighbors at Brighter Choice Charter Schools.

The Mayor was joined by her Chief of Staff, Nesta Littlejohn, and leaders from the Albany Police Department, the Department of General Services, Buildings and Regulatory Compliance, Neighborhood Services, the Office of Violence Prevention, Intergovernmental Affairs, and Digital and Community Communications.

Together, the Masjid and Brighter Choice bring about 1,000 children into this neighborhood every week. We met to strengthen our partnership with the City, focusing on the safety, cleanliness, and well-being of the blocks our children walk every day.

We thanked the City for the improvements that have made a real difference: the speed humps on Bradford Street, the school zone speed cameras on Central Avenue, brighter streetlights, the DGS cleanup, the police officer assigned during Ramadan, and the Mayor's office's help with our Bradford Street parking lot. We also shared the concerns that remain and agreed to keep working together on lasting solutions.

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, "Whoever does not thank people has not thanked Allah." (Tirmidhi)

Jazak Allah Kher to Mayor Applyrs and her team, and to Luke Licygiewicz, Principal Kristina Ford, and Mr. Borum of Brighter Choice. We look forward to continuing this work for the good of our whole community.
