📖 Sunday Sermon Recap
Title: Freedom, Fruit, and Witness of Giving
Scripture: 2 Corinthians 9:1-15

Sermon Synopsis:
In 2 Corinthians 9, Paul teaches that Christian giving is far more than a financial act. It is a response to God's grace, an expression of faith, and a testimony of a life transformed by the gospel. Giving begins with willing hearts, bears spiritual fruit, and points others to God. Ultimately, our generosity reflects Christ, God's inexpressible gift, and strengthens the unity of His people. As SKMC prepares for the Land Lease Renewal Fund, we are invited to respond to God's love through joyful, faithful, and Christ-centred giving.

Key Truth
Because Christ is God's inexpressible gift, we are free to give; our giving bears fruit, becomes a witness, and unites God's people.

Key Message:
Giving is a gospel response to God's grace that bears fruit, bears witness, and builds unity.

Discussion Questions
1. Do you see giving as an exchange or a response?
2. How does Jesus, as an inexpressible gift, inspire you to give?
3. Without giving, what would be missing from our faith testimony?
4. Does our giving help the church become more united and allow others to see Christ's love?

FROM 40 DAYS OF PRAYER TO DAY OF HIS POWER

For 40 days, we prayed.
for our nation,
for our churches,
for our families and the next generation,
for God to renew His people and move in Singapore.

And on 7 August, we gathered at SKMC with 440 people for Day of His Power 2026 to worship, to pray, and to seek God together.

We thank God for every prayer that was lifted up, every person who served, and every heart that came ready to seek Him.
We were especially blessed to see our children, youth and friends with special needs take their place and lead us in prayer. What a beautiful reminder that every generation and every person has a place in God's Kingdom.

The 40 days may have come to an end, but may the prayer groups continue.
May we remain invested in Christ and in one another, as we Grow, Glow and Go.
To God be all the glory.

📖 Sunday Sermon Recap

The book of Isaiah was written at a time when the people of Israel were facing invasions, threats and famines.

The prophet Isaiah did not tell of the provision of strong armies or better weapons. Instead, Isaiah told the people about “seed for the sower and bread for the eater” (Why sow when there are invading armies?)

Discussion Questions
1. Using the metaphors of Seed for the Sower and Bread for the eater - describe/ share what these mean for you at your workplace?
2. What will help you to be a little more joyful each day - at work and at home?
2. Share about a transformation that we can pray for in your setting (personal or work)

📖 Sunday Sermon Recap

2 Corinthians is a continuation of Paul’s theme of love. In 1 Corinthians, Paul tried to restore the unity of the church, but the letter failed to transform the church. In addition to the problem of church unity, there were some Jewish Christian teachers discrediting Paul’s teaching, positioning themselves as ”super apostles” with the sole right to the interpretation of the bible.
Paul wrote in response, stating that it is actually in his weakness that Christ is uplifted, since God’s power would have manifested through his ministry. Paul’s thorn in his flesh actually prevented him from being conceited and allowed him to minister to those who are in trouble with empathy.

In our church today, we have pastors of different giftings being appointed. We also have members from all walks of life. We must learn to be one in Christ so that Christ can be uplifted. It is more evident through how we live our Christian life that people can see us as different from the world.

Discussion Questions
1. Weakness: What is my particular weakness?
2. Reliance: How can I rely on God in view of my particular weakness?
3. Boasting: Do I boast more about what I have achieved rather than my weaknesses?
4. Giving: What is preventing me from giving what is right?

📖 Sunday Sermon Recap

The economy of the Kingdom of God requires God’s people to honour Him with our giftings, which ultimately come from God Himself.

In the parable in Matthew, Jesus depicted his followers as servants helping the Master invest His wealth. What the Master expected of his servants was that they be faithful in investing, generating profits with the entire principal amount. When the Master returns, those who did not perform would be thrown into darkness, where there is weeping and gnashing of teeth. This aligns with our Wesleyan understanding that we need to work out our salvation with fear and trembling (Philippians 2:12) because salvation can be lost (cf. Once Saved, Always Saved).

Ultimately, this parable emphasises that ALL our giftings (spiritual or secular, if there is a distinction) come from God, and we must make use of all these giftings (5 talents, 2 talents, or 1 talent) for his glory. Failure to do that would result in reproach from the Lord. The good and faithful servant would be ushered into the Lord’s presence and be entrusted with more talents.

📖 Sunday Sermon Recap

In this sermon, Samuel Kwan reflects on dementia through personal family experience and the hope of Biblical teaching. Centred on Psalm 103:14–18, the message explores the deep fears dementia raises—being forgotten by others, losing one’s sense of self, and even the fear of forgetting God. Yet the sermon proclaims the gospel comfort that God remembers us even when we forget. In light of this truth, the church is called not to fear dementia, but to respond with Christlike love by remembering, honouring, and walking patiently with persons living with dementia and their caregivers.

📖 Sunday Sermon Recap

Sermon Synopsis: This Easter Sunday sermon explores John 20 to show that our faith is not merely something we think or profess, but something we actively live.

Anchoring on John’s unique framing of belief using the verb πιστεύω (pisteuō), emphasising belief as an ongoing, lived action rather than a static possession. Easter invites us first to SEEK Christ—even in pain, doubt, and darkness—just as Mary sought Jesus at the tomb. As we seek, we are promised that we will SEE Him. Ultimately, encountering the risen Christ transforms belief into action: we are then SENT to live out and proclaim the good news.

This Easter message challenges all, seekers and believers alike, to move from a cognitive faith to a living faith—to truly be living the belief as people sent by the risen Lord.
