Praying for Pope Leo XIV

Pope Leo XIV underwent thoracic surgery at Gemelli Hospital on Tuesday afternoon, as planned, according to a statement from Dr. Luigi Carbone and Professor Stefano Margaritora released by the Holy See Press Office.

The surgeons removed the lower lobe of the Pope’s right lung, and tissue examined during the operation confirmed the diagnosis of “lung adenocarcinoma,” as suspected from tests conducted beforehand.

The Pope was in the operating room approximately three hours, while the operation itself lasted about 90 minutes. The doctors said it was successful and there were no complications.

Pope Leo awoke normally after surgery and, following a brief period of observation, returned to his room on the hospital’s 10th floor, according to the statement.

Today, 25 September, Pope Leo XIV begins his Apostolic Journey to France, a four-day pilgrimage of faith, hope, and communion.

During this pastoral visit, the Holy Father will travel to Paris, Saint-Denis, Lourdes, and Metz. His itinerary includes meetings with civil and religious leaders, a visit to UNESCO, Vespers at Notre-Dame Cathedral, a prayer vigil with young people at the Stade de France, the celebration of Holy Mass in Paris and Lourdes, encounters with the French bishops, the sick, religious communities, and an interreligious gathering in Metz.

As Pope Leo XIV embarks on this important spiritual journey, let us keep him in our prayers. May the Holy Spirit guide and strengthen him in his ministry, and may all the faithful, pilgrims, and people he encounters be renewed in faith, hope, and charity through this apostolic visit.

Bishop Sam Agcaracar's Visit to the CFC Vatican Office

During his recent visit to the CFC Vatican Office in Rome, Bishop Sam Agcaracar of the Diocese of San Jose, a former Singles for Christ (SFC) member, shared his heartfelt gratitude for the role that Couples for Christ played in his early faith formation and vocation journey.

Reflecting on his experiences in the community, Bishop Agcaracar spoke about how his involvement in SFC and the broader CFC family helped shape his spiritual life and discernment, ultimately leading him to answer God's call to the priesthood. He acknowledged that the values, formation, and missionary spirit he received through the community were instrumental in nurturing his vocation.

Now serving as Bishop of the Diocese of San Jose, he encouraged Couples for Christ to continue its mission of family evangelization and integral ecology. These remain among the key pastoral priorities he hopes to promote and strengthen within his diocese as part of his episcopal ministry.

Before his ordination as bishop, Bishop Agcaracar served as rector of the Society of the Divine Word (SVD) seminary. He was also instrumental in establishing and overseeing the development of the SVD Laudato Si' Farm in Tagaytay, an initiative that reflects the Church's commitment to care for creation and environmental stewardship inspired by Pope Francis' encyclical Laudato Si'.

His visit served as a meaningful reminder of the lasting impact of Christian formation and community life in fostering vocations and empowering missionary disciples to serve the Church in diverse ways. Through his testimony, Bishop Agcaracar highlighted how the seeds of faith planted in one's youth can bear fruit in a lifetime of service to God and His people.

PCF HOSTS FELLOWSHIP DINNER FOR FILIPINO NEW BISHOPS IN ROME

On the Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Pontificio Collegio Filippino (PCF) hosted a fellowship dinner in honor of Filipino newly ordained bishops currently in Rome. The gathering brought together nine bishops, including seven from the Philippines, one from Perth, Australia, and one from California, USA.

The evening was graced by the presence of the Philippine Ambassador to the Holy See, along with Filipino clergy and religious serving in the Roman Curia. Also in attendance were Filipino Superiors General leading their respective religious orders and congregations, making the event a joyful celebration of communion and fraternity among members of the Filipino Church.

Among the bishops present were Bishop Sam Agcaracar of San Jose, the first member of Singles for Christ to become a bishop, Bishop Sean Mejia of Tabuk, and Bishop Edwin Panergo of Boac. During our conversation with them, the bishops expressed their appreciation for the presence and support of the Couples for Christ community in their local Churches. They encouraged CFC members to continue their mission of evangelization, family renewal, and the promotion of synodality within the life of the Church.

The celebration was further enriched by the presence of the Filipino student priests residing at the Pontificio Collegio Filippino, led by their rector, Fr. Greg Gaston. Their participation added to the warm and festive atmosphere of the evening.

The gathering served as a meaningful opportunity to strengthen the bonds between Filipino bishops, clergy, religious, and lay faithful while celebrating the shared mission of proclaiming the Gospel and building a synodal Church rooted in communion, participation, and mission.

Today, we celebrate Mama Mary, her birth, her beautiful life, and the quiet yes that opened the door for God to enter the world through a family. 💙

She was a ,daughter, a wife, a mother. She loved Jesus in the ordinary things, holding Him, feeding Him, watching Him grow, keeping Him close, while St. Joseph stood faithfully beside them.

And because Mary said yes, her whole life became a Magnificat: a song of love, trust, and praise to God.

So today, what can our family give Mama Mary for her birthday? Maybe a Rosary prayed together, a kinder home, forgiveness, more patience, or simply one sincere yes to Jesus.

Couples for Christ (CFC) met with Fr. Franco Galdino and his team from the Youth Office of the Dicastery for Laity, Family and Life to share updates on the global work of its ministries serving children, youth, and young professionals.

CFC reported on the international and regional conferences conducted across its ministries, ensuring that the global theme, In the One, we are one, is expressed and shared creatively among participants in different countries. These gatherings, along with ongoing formation initiatives and cross‑regional collaboration efforts, help strengthen unity and missionary zeal among members globally.

Updates also included CFC’s preparations for the upcoming World Youth Day in South Korea, where the community is exploring the possibility of featuring Liveloud in the Youth Festival, following its positive reception at WYD Lisbon.

Fr. Franco expressed appreciation for the efforts of CFC’s ministries for the young, and CFC reaffirmed its openness to support the broader mission of the Youth Office and accompany young people in their journey of faith.
