Perpetual Oblation in San Antonio, Texas

Scholastic Pablo Henning Manrique professed his perpetual vows during a Mass held at the Immaculate Conception Memorial Chapel, Oblate School of Theology, in San Antonio, Texas, on Saturday, September 5, 2026.

The Mass was presided over by Rev. Fr. Ray Cook, OMI, Provincial of the United States Province, who also received Pablo’s perpetual vows.

PROFESSION PERPÉTUELLE DES FRÈRES CÉLESTIN AIMÉ DIÈNE ET PAUL DIOMAYE FAYE À LA PAROISSE MARIE IMMACULÉE DES PARCELLES ASSAINIES DE DAKAR

Ce samedi 5 septembre 2026, la Paroisse Marie Immaculée, Mère de Dieu des Parcelles Assainies de Dakar, a vibré au rythme de la foi, de la prière et de l’action de grâce à l’occasion d’une célébration particulière : la profession perpétuelle des Frères Célestin Aimé Diène et Paul Diomaye Faye, Missionnaires Oblats de Marie Immaculée.

Entourés de leurs familles, de leurs confrères, de religieux, d’amis et de nombreux fidèles venus de différents horizons, les deux jeunes Oblats ont prononcé leur « oui » définitif au Christ, s’engageant à vivre pleinement les conseils évangéliques de pauvreté, de chasteté et d’obéissance au service de l’Église et de la mission.

La célébration eucharistique, présidée par le Père Vincent Waly DIOUF, OMI, Supérieur de la Délégation Sénégal–Guinée-Bissau, a été marquée par une profonde ferveur. Les chants, les prières et les gestes liturgiques.

Camp vocationnel OMI 2026 aux Parcelles Assainies : fraternité, discernement et mission

THÈME : « L’Esprit du Seigneur est sur moi parce que le Seigneur m’a consacré par l’onction. Il m’a envoyé porter la Bonne Nouvelle aux pauvres… » (Lc 4,18-19 ; Is 61,1)

Du 1er au 6 septembre 2026, la paroisse Marie Immaculée, Mère de Dieu, aux Parcelles Assainies de Dakar, accueille le camp vocationnel des Missionnaires Oblats de Marie Immaculée (OMI) de la Délégation du Sénégal-Guinée-Bissau. Comme chaque année, cette rencontre rassemble des jeunes désireux de mieux connaître la vocation oblate et de poursuivre leur chemin de discernement.

Le camp est avant tout un temps de fraternité, de partage et de découverte de la vie missionnaire oblate. Cette année, 48 aspirants venus du Sénégal et de la Guinée-Bissau y participent . Ils sont accompagnés par 19 scolastiques ainsi que par le responsable du Prénoviciat, le Père Joseph Sadio, OMI.

Au fil des journées, les participants vivent ensemble des moments de prière, de méditation, de formation et d’échange. Le programme comprend notamment les Laudes, des enseignements, des carrefours, des témoignages, des travaux communautaires, des activités sportives, des visites, des classes de chant, des célébrations eucharistiques et des temps de récréation. Cette diversité permet aux jeunes de découvrir que la vocation se vit à travers la prière, mais aussi dans la fraternité, le service et les gestes simples du quotidien.

Le camp vocationnel témoigne d’une conviction profonde : Dieu continue d’appeler aujourd’hui. Celui qui a appelé saint Eugène de Mazenod et ses premiers compagnons continue de susciter des vocations missionnaires dans l’Église et au sein de la Congrégation des Missionnaires Oblats de Marie Immaculée.

La pastorale vocationnelle occupe ainsi une place essentielle dans la mission oblate. Elle consiste à inviter, accueillir et accompagner ceux qui souhaitent découvrir le charisme oblat et approfondir leur discernement au sein de cette famille religieuse.
Le camp est également marqué par des étapes importantes dans le parcours de certains scolastiques, notamment le renouvellement des vœux religieux et d’autres engagements vers le don définitif de leur vie au Christ et à sa mission. Pour les aspirants, ces célébrations constituent un témoignage concret de fidélité, de générosité et de joie missionnaire.

Durant ces quelques jours, les jeunes ont l’occasion de côtoyer leurs aînés, d’écouter leurs expériences, de poser leurs questions et de découvrir plus concrètement ce que signifie être Missionnaire Oblat de Marie Immaculée. Cette proximité favorise une véritable expérience de fraternité et soutient chacun dans son discernement.

Au-delà des activités proposées, le camp vocationnel permet aux aspirants de goûter davantage à la vie oblate. Dans la prière, la simplicité, la joie et la fraternité, ils découvrent progressivement une famille missionnaire appelée à annoncer l’Évangile et à se tenir particulièrement auprès des plus pauvres.

Cette expérience leur fait également découvrir un charisme particulier au cœur de l’Église : celui des Missionnaires Oblats de Marie Immaculée, animés par le désir de porter l’Évangile aux personnes et aux milieux qui en sont les plus éloignés.

À travers le thème de cette édition, « L’Esprit du Seigneur est sur moi parce qu’il m’a consacré par l’onction. Il m’a envoyé porter la Bonne Nouvelle aux pauvres » (Lc 4,18), le camp rappelle que toute vocation trouve son accomplissement dans la mission. Il invite chaque participant à se rendre disponible à l’action de l’Esprit Saint, à écouter l’appel de Dieu et à répondre avec générosité à la mission que le Seigneur lui confie.

Fr. Madej on 30 years among Muslims: 'I never felt like an outsider'

After nearly 30 years of ministry in Turkmenistan as a missionary, Fr. Andrzej Madej, OMI, tells Vatican News that his goal was to build relationships with all people based on respect and peace, since "where Christ comes, love comes with Him."

When Oblate Father Andrzej Madej arrived in Turkmenistan, the Catholic Church there had to be built almost from the ground up. There were no established structures and no large Catholic communities. Even so, there was the possibility of meeting people.

The Missionary Oblate of Mary Immaculate (OMI) recalls inviting people for tea, talking with them, and reading the Gospel together. Step by step, a community began to take shape. The first baptisms were celebrated at Easter in 2000.
“They saw the Church being born before their eyes,” recalls the Oblate missionary. It was a small Church, growing within an overwhelmingly Muslim society.

Members of the Central Government conclude their annual retreat today in Rocca di Papa, Italy. The retreat was directed by Fr. Ron Rolheiser, OMI, from San Antonio, USA, and provided a valuable time of prayer, reflection, and renewal for the members of the Council. Renewed in spirit and energized for the mission ahead, the Central Government will begin its Plenary Session on September 9 and continue until October 9. Among the important matters on the agenda are preparations for the 2028 General Chapter and the appointment of new Provincials for the Philippines, Colombo, and the United States Provinces. We entrust these days of discernment and decision-making to the Lord, praying that the Holy Spirit may continue to guide the Council in serving the Congregation and its mission throughout the world.

San Antonio, Texas, USA – September 3, 2026

Five Oblate scholastics, Vianey, Nam, Elisha, Eliakim, and Michael, renewed their religious vows today during Mass at the Blessed Mario Borzaga Scholasticate Chapel.

Fr. Raymond Cook, OMI, Provincial of the U.S. Province, received their vows. The ceremony was witnessed by Fr. Emmanuel Mulenga, OMI, Vicar Provincial; Fr. Antonio Ponce, OMI, Provincial Treasurer; and the spiritual directors of the scholastics and the Borzaga Scholasticate community.

The Vatican is hosting its annual formation course for newly appointed bishops from Sept. 2-10, bringing together 147 prelates from five continents to strengthen ecclesial communion and provide practical tools for the exercise of episcopal ministry.
The program has been a fixture of the Church calendar since 2000, when it was launched by St. John Paul II. Described by Vatican media as a condensed “master’s program” for new bishops, it is designed to foster the exchange of experiences among pastors from widely differing cultural, social, and ecclesial contexts while offering practical guidance for governing local churches.
This year’s participants come from countries across Africa, Asia, Oceania, and Latin America, including Algeria, Bangladesh, Cameroon, Colombia, Côte d’Ivoire, Ethiopia, the Philippines, Ghana, Honduras, India, Indonesia, Kenya, Madagascar, Mali, Myanmar, Namibia, Papua New Guinea, Peru, the Central African Republic, Senegal, the Seychelles, the Solomon Islands, Sri Lanka, South Africa, Vietnam, Zimbabwe, Kyrgyzstan, and Thailand.
Most of the world’s bishops fall under the jurisdiction of the Dicastery for Bishops, which oversees the creation of dioceses, episcopal appointments, and matters related to episcopal governance in the Latin Church. Bishops serving in missionary territories, however, are under the Dicastery for Evangelization, specifically its Section for First Evangelization and New Particular Churches.

These days, the General House community has had the joy of welcoming the newly ordained Bishop of Prince Albert in Saskatchewan, Canada, Most Rev. Ken Thorson, OMI. He is currently participating in the Holy See's formation program for newly appointed bishops. Several other recently appointed Oblate bishops from around the world are also taking part in the program. The General House community is pleased to welcome them to Rome and to accompany them with prayers and fraternal support as they begin this new chapter of their episcopal ministry in the service of the Church.
