Bore da, bawb.

It was on this day (2 June) in 1982 when Pope John Paul II became the first reigning Pope to visit Cymru.

The Welsh visit was part of a wider pastoral trip to Britain between 29 May and 6 June 1982. Parts of the tour were delayed due to him taking an impromptu walkabout in Cardiff - he must have really liked it!

The trip was fondly remembered for his use of Cymraeg, with the Pope declaring "Bendith Duw Arnoch - The blessing of God be on you" at Pontcanna Fields. He also conducted a youth service at Ninian Park, then the home of Cardiff City FC.

To accompany his constant calls for peace in the world, Pope Leo XIV will lead the prayer of the Holy Rosary on May 30 at 7:00 PM Rome time from the Vatican Gardens.

He will lead the faithful in Shrines around the world in praying the Joyful Mysteries, with each decade being dedicated specifically for those affected by war and violence and entrusting them to the intercession of Mary, Queen of Peace.

The first mystery prays for the victims of war, especially the most vulnerable, while the second is for those who bring words of hope and the comfort of faith to populations affected by war. The third recalls the medical and paramedical personnel and volunteers who bring humanitarian aid every day.

The fourth mystery prays for those who suffer the violence of war, for prisoners and for all who endure humiliations that violate human dignity. The fifth and final Joyful Mystery is dedicated to praying for an end to war and the establishment of lasting peace in the world.

Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful.
And kindle in them the fire of your love.
Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created.
And you will renew the face of the earth.

A very happy and blessed Pentecost (and birthday) to you all.
Let us make our prayer of today for a fresh outpouring of the Holy Spirit in our lives, on our Archdiocese and on the Church that we may be more faithful followers of the Gospel.

It is with shock and sadness that we ask of your charity to please pray for the repose of the soul of Canon Jason Jones....

This weekend we celebrate the 60th World Day of Social Communications, and in his message Pope Leo XIV asks a question that cuts to the heart of our digital age: What happens when machines begin to imitate the very things that make us human – our faces, our voices, our relationships?

Today is the Feast of the Ascension! 🙏
The Ascension falls 40 days after Easter, and marks the moment Christ returned to the Father - bringing our humanity with him. It's a day of joy. Jesus doesn't simply leave; he promises to send the Holy Spirit, and he commissions his disciples to go out and share the Good News.
It's a Holy Day of Obligation, so we hope to see as many of you as possible at Mass. If you're not sure of your nearest church, you can find it here: https://rcadc.org/directory/churches/

In the days between the Ascension and Pentecost, the Apostles did something quite simple - they prayed. For nine days, they waited with Mary, trusting in that promise. That's where the tradition of the Novena comes from. It's a beautiful time to do the same, preparing our hearts for Pentecost and the birthday of the Church. 🕊️
