Today marks the 60th anniversary of the tragedy at Aberfan. 144 people including 116 lost their lives when a coal waste tip slid down onto Pantglas Junior School and houses nearby. Today we remember the victims, the survivors and the wider community of Aberfan. There will be a Memorial Mass offered for the victims this evening at 7:00pm.

We continue to keep the Holy Father in our prayers at this time.

Pope Leo XIV underwent thoracic surgery at Gemelli Hospital on Tuesday afternoon, as planned, according to a statement from Dr. Luigi Carbone and Professor Stefano Margaritora released by the Holy See Press Office.

The surgeons removed the lower lobe of the Pope’s right lung, and tissue examined during the operation confirmed the diagnosis of “lung adenocarcinoma,” as suspected from tests conducted beforehand.

The Pope was in the operating room approximately three hours, while the operation itself lasted about 90 minutes. The doctors said it was successful and there were no complications.

Pope Leo awoke normally after surgery and, following a brief period of observation, returned to his room on the hospital’s 10th floor, according to the statement.

Our prayers are with Pope Leo today after he shared that he will have an operation in the coming days to remove a localised nodule in one of his lungs. We entrust the Holy Father to the loving care of the Lord and all those involved in the procedure at Rome's Gemelli Hospital.

🎉 Twenty years, countless songs, and one very special birthday! Côr y Gleision/Cardiff Blues Choir is turning 20, and among the works they will sing at their anniversary concert is the premiere performance of a Magnificat composed by their conductor, Richard Vaughan.

The concert takes place at the stunning Metropolitan Cathedral Church of St David, Cardiff, where the choir will be joined by The British Sinfonietta Orchestra and world-renowned soloists Jessica Robinson (Soprano) and Joshua Owen Mills (Tenor), plus a selection of favourites from the past two decades.
